The metal body is inclined in a direction of inclination, so as to define at least one eccentricity between a first transversal section at a first end of the axial through-cavity and a second transversal section at a second end of the axial through-cavity. The augment element further comprises a plurality of through-slits in the metal body, open from the first end up to an intermediate portion on the metal body, wherein the plurality of through-slits is configured for a radial compression of the metal body, locally reducing a circumference of the substantially annular transversal sections during insertion of the augment element, and increasing a press-fit towards a bone portion.

ANATOMIC KNEE PROSTHESIS AND DESIGNING METHOD

A knee prosthesis and a method of selecting for a particular patient a knee prosthesis from an inventory of available knee prosthesis or from 3D knee prosthesis models is provided. The method includes the steps of (a) parameterizing a knee prosthesis according to well-defined and independent knee joint compartments, (b) generating a large number knee shapes in the form of 3D knee prosthesis models which reproduce the 3D shape asymmetries of each individual knee, thereby enabling the replication of the knee motion of essentially any patient by generating shapes which vary the shape parameters (surface and dimension) of at least one of those compartments and storing these 3D knee prosthesis models in a database, and (c) studying the patient’s pathology and developing pre -pathological knee prosthesis criteria matching the patient’s needs. Using a planning algorithm, a suitable knee prosthesis may be selected among an inventory of existing knee prostheses or the large number of knee shapes, the prosthesis or shape selected best meeting the patient’s needs as determined by the study.

Femur plate

A femur plate is provided, the femur plate comprising a first end portion anatomically pre-formed to conform to a trochanter region of the femur and a second end portion anatomically pre-formed to conform to a condyle region of the femur, wherein the second end portion comprises at least one first opening configured to receive a bone fastener. The femur plate further comprises an elongate shaft extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, the elongate shaft comprising at least one second opening configured to receive a bone fastener. Furthermore, a periprosthetic implant system comprising the femur plate and a method of implanting the femur plate are provided.

Jig for guiding placement of femoral component of the implant in knee replacement surgery

The present jig for guiding placement of femoral component of the implant in a knee replacement surgery (J) is a pre-assembled Jig (J) which ensures precision fit femoral implant for knee replacement based on difference of cuts in millimeters instead of the usual angle measurement in degrees. It avoids intrusion of the intramedullary canal substantially decreasing the risks of embolism. It enables the surgeon to use precise values of depth of cuts obtained from a system for obtaining optimum fit implant as described in patent application number 3896/MUM2015. This enables the surgeon to control precisely the placement of the implant in terms of flexion or extension, varus or valgus, internal or external rotation It also enables precise placement of the fourin-one cutting block simultaneously with the distal femur cut; ensuring precise placement of knee femoral component of the knee implant. This reduces efforts and time taken during the surgery.

Knee evaluation and arthroplasty method

A method of evaluating a human joint including bones and ligaments under anatomical tension to connect the bones. The method includes: defining a primary datum oriented and fixed in six degrees of freedom; defining at least one secondary datum having fixed origins relative to one of the bones of the joint and relative to a tracking device affixed to the bone; providing an electronic receiving device; associating continuous position and orientation of the at least one secondary datums with respect to the primary datum; while moving the joint, using the electronic receiving device to collect data from the at least one tracking device, wherein the data includes information describing the position and movement in six degrees of freedom of the at least one secondary datum to produce a digital geometric model of at least a portion of the joint; and storing the digital geometric model for further use.

INSTRUMENTAL ALIGNMENT SYSTEM USED IN TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY

Customized alignment system of the instruments used in total knee arthroplasty. The alignment system comprises a fixed femoral guide (1) and a tibial guide (4) configured to adapt to the femur and the tibia, resting on these bones without invading the cartilage of the articular surfaces. The tibial guide (4) and two joinable femoral guides (2, 3) that can be coupled to the fixed femoral guide (1) allow performing bone perforations adequately arranged to allow subsequent placement of cutting guides for the placement of a conventional total knee prosthesis. The guides (1, 2, 3, 4) are designed from a preoperative bone model. The system of the invention provides a more precise alignment compared to other conventional techniques, avoids the use of intramedullary alignment and simplifies surgery for the placement of a total knee prosthesis.
