Orthotic shoulder support
11622876 · 2023-04-11 · ·

An orthotic support comprises a shoulder section for encapsulating a first shoulder of a wearer, a glove section for conforming to at least a portion of the wearer's hand, and a sleeve section for conforming to the wearer's arm, the sleeve section connecting the shoulder section to the glove section. A resilient reinforcement extends from the glove section to the shoulder section, and at least a portion of the reinforcement extends in a spiral around the sleeve section, so that the reinforcement is configured to apply a rotational force to the wearer's arm, when worn, to urge a portion of the wearer's arm to rotate in a predetermined direction. The orthotic support may be usable to treat or prevent shoulder dislocation or subluxation, arm over-pronation or over-supination, wrist flexion or elbow flexion. An orthotic support may comprise a reinforcement with a first branch extending over an anterior portion of the sleeve section, and a second branch extending over a posterior portion of the sleeve section, so that the reinforcement is configured to urge the wearer's upper arm towards a rest position.

Orthopedic device, method, and system for making an orthopedic device
11648142 · 2023-05-16 · ·

An orthopedic device comprises a body having a monolithic structure and arranged to form a closed circumference in a secured configuration, the body having a predetermined shape in an unsecured configuration. The body is formed continuously without interruption from at least one polymeric material. A method for making the orthopedic device includes providing a schematic including a model representing a body part for which the orthopedic device is intended, providing at least one array of coordinates and indicia corresponding to the coordinates proximate to the model at a plurality of locations along the model, and providing a scale set corresponding to the coordinates. The dimensions obtained from measuring the body part may be used to form a custom-shaped orthopedic device.

Thumb Brace
20230149198 · 2023-05-18 ·

A thumb brace comprising a glove having a thumb portion disposed between a palm side and a back side; and a pad attached to the glove and positioned proximate the base of the thumb portion on the back side of the glove such that the pad cushions a CMC joint of a user of the brace from impact.

Tightening mechanisms and applications including the same

A reel based closure device includes a housing, a spool positioned within the housing, and a knob that is operably coupled with the spool so that an operation of the knob causes the spool to rotate in a first direction within the housing. The spool has an upper flange, a lower flange, and a cylindrical wall disposed between the upper flange and the lower flange. The spool is rotatable in the first direction to wind a tension member about the spool's cylindrical wall when the spool is rotated in the first direction. The tension member has a first end and a second end positioned opposite the first end. The cylindrical wall has three holes through which the first end of the tension member is inserted to secure the first end of the tension member to the spool.

Prosthesis and orthosis slip detection sensor and method of use

A device and method for measuring prosthetic or orthotic slip is presented. An optical sensor device is attached to the prosthesis or orthosis and measures the amount of relative motion between the prosthetic socket and the residual limb surface or between the orthosis and the affected body part. The sensor device is comprised of an optical sensor, a light source, a processing unit and a power source contained within a housing. A system for measuring multidirectional prosthetic or orthotic slip using the sensor device and automatically adjusting the fit of the prosthetic based on a determined threshold is also presented.

WATERPROOF, POLYMERIC BRACE

Orthopedic supports include bodies consisting essentially of a unitary layer of elastomeric material, which can be a thermoplastic foam.

GARMENT FOR A HAND

A compression garment for a hand. The garment includes a body portion dimensioned to wrap at least partially around a hand of a user and includes a trimmable portion. An aperture of the body portion is disposed opposite the trimmable portion wherein the aperture is configured for receiving a thumb of the user. A plurality of bands are extended from an edge of the body portion in communication with the trimmable portion. Each band can be trimmable to a plurality of sizes (e.g. length, width, or the like) and can include a proximal end connected to the body portion and a distal free end having a fastener.

MOLDABLE WRIST BRACE

A moldable wrist brace. The brace includes a pocket with a moldable insert disposed therein. The pocket and insert extend substantially the full length of the brace to maximize the length of the user's wrist supported thereby. A plurality of straps and buckles are provided for retaining the brace on the user's wrist and providing a desired compression thereon. The straps include locking tabs that once inserted through the buckles resist withdrawal of the straps therefrom. One-handed donning of the brace is thus simplified by retention of the straps in engagement with the buckles.

Robotic forearm orthosis using soft fabric-based helical actuators
11510841 · 2022-11-29 ·

A robotic orthosis device for assisting users to rotate their wrist with a pair of fabric-based helical actuators and a sleeve or rigid interfaces configured to attach to a user's forearm. Each of the helical actuators includes a cylinder and a pneumatic bladder configured to inflate the cylinder. Each cylinder includes an anisotropic sheet material and a base sheet material running the length of the cylinder. The anisotropic sheet material comprises elastomeric strands that enable the material to stretch in a direction parallel to the orientation of the elastomeric strands, but different than the longitudinal axis of the cylinder. The base sheet material, which is affixed to the anisotropic sheet material, is strain-limiting along the longitudinal axis. When the bladder is pressurized, the expansion of the bladder causes the cylinder to stretch and twist, thus generating a helical force on the user' wrist relative to the elbow.

FLEXIBLE ANATOMICAL SUPPORT

A flexible support including a body configured to provide anatomical support to a user's appendage, and an insert extending along at least a portion of an edge of the flexible support to reduce irritation and fitment discomfort to the user's appendage from the edge.
