MEDICAL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR TREATMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS
Combined therapy for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. The therapy includes administration of medium to high molecular weight hyaluronic acid intraarticular injections followed by administration of platelet-rich plasma also administered by intraarticular injections. Before administration of the hyaluronic acid intraarticular injections, the knee can be stretched and exercised using a static progressive knee stretch device. The knee can be supported by a single hinge knee brace that can be worn daily, and during weight-bearing activity.
Orthopedic device having a dynamic control system and method for using the same
An orthopedic device and method for using the same are provided for applying a dynamic load on a leg of a user. The orthopedic device has a rigid or semi-rigid frame including lower and upper frames, and a hinge assembly connecting the lower and upper frames. A dynamic loading component is used to urge the load on the user's leg on the basis of flexion of the hinge assembly on the basis of tension in an elongate element connecting the dynamic loading component and at least one of the lower and upper frames. A peak load is generated at a flexion angle between extension and flexion of the hinge assembly.
ANATOMICAL BRACE FOR DYNAMICALLY STABILIZING THE PATELLA DURING KNEE ARTICULATION SO AS TO ADDRESS PATELLA TRACKING ERROR
An anatomical brace for dynamically stabilizing the patella during knee articulation so as to address patella tracking error, the anatomical brace being configured such that, when the anatomical brace is mounted to the knee of a patient, and when the knee thereafter moves to full extension, the anatomical brace applies a proximal/medial force to the patella of the patient, and when the knee thereafter moves to full flexion, the proximal/medial force is released.
Customizable knee brace intended for patients with osteoarthritis
A customizable knee brace for use in the treatment of osteoarthritis is provided. The customizable knee brace includes a lateral upright. The lateral upright includes at least a first semi-rigid support, a second semi-rigid support, and a hinge physically coupling the first semi-rigid support and the second semi-rigid support. The customizable knee brace further includes a thigh cuff constructed of formable material and coupled to the first semi-rigid support. The customizable knee brace further includes a shin cuff constructed of formable material and coupled to the second semi-rigid support. The customizable knee brace further includes an elastomeric web framework coupled to the lateral upright and configured to secure an area of a knee of a patient when wearing the customizable knee brace. The customizable knee brace further includes at least one tensioning element configured to adjust a tension of the elastomeric web framework.
Variable radius spring assembly
In combination with a knee brace, the variable radius spring assembly of the present invention provides a full range knee orthotic with support to the leg muscles without compromising the range of motion and the patient's normal walk/gate. The assembly comprises upper and lower hinge pieces attached to upper and lower sections of the brace, a spring bracket, and an elongated spring element that extends downward from the upper hinge piece past a catch on the lower hinge piece. Two such assemblies are attached to a knee brace, one on the inner side and one on the outer side. As the lower leg, and the lower hinge piece, move rearward, the catch forces the spring element rearward and slides downward along the spring element. Consequently, the spring element has a non-linear response requiring approximately the same about of force to deflect the spring element throughout its range of rearward travel.
ORTHOPEDIC BRACE WITH CUSTOM-FITTED FRAMEWORK OF LIGHT-CURABLE MATERIAL
An orthopedic brace is provided that includes one or more pad plates formed of a light-curable material and a hinge comprising one or more hinge framework elements connected to the one or more pad plates. The pad plates may include an elastomeric shell to contain the light-curable material. A rigid attachment member may be coupled to the elastomeric shell to couple to the hinge framework element.
VERSATILE ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE
A versatile orthopedic device is arranged to convert between ligament and osteoarthritis treatment, and to accommodate a variety of leg anatomies. The orthopedic device is preferably configured as a double-upright brace indicating struts, frame component sections and associated hinges preferably intended to be along both medial and lateral sides of a wearer's leg. A strap kit with an unloading strap system may be added to the orthopedic device for conversion into an orthopedic device for osteoarthritis relief.
SEMI-ACTIVE ROBOTIC JOINT
A robotic joint comprises a first link, a middle link, a torque generator, a second link, and a locking mechanism. Different ends of the middle link are rotatably coupled to the first link and the second link. The torque generator is coupled to the first link and the middle link and is configured to produce a torque between these links. The locking mechanism is switchable between a locking state and an unlocking state. In the unlocking state, the locking mechanism allows free rotation of the second link relative to the middle link in the first and second rotation directions. In the locking state, the locking mechanism is configured to impede rotation of the second link relative to the middle link in the first rotation direction and to allow rotation of the second link relative to the middle link in the second rotation direction opposite of the first rotation direction.
Brace and tension springs for a brace
A brace for augmenting extension of a user's limb about a joint comprises an upper arm pivotably attached to a lower arm. At least one compression element is attached to at least one of the upper and lower arms, and a substantially inelastic tensioning element is affixed to the other of the upper and lower arms over at least one tensioning member. Applying a force to bend the brace to a flexed position loads the compression element, and upon removal of the flexing force the compression element applies a restoring force to urge the brace back to the extended position. The compression element may comprise a hydraulic tension spring comprising at least one cylinder having a sealed portion defining a liquid containment space, and a piston comprising a compressing portion having a smaller diameter than the cylinder and extending axially through a hydraulic seal into the liquid containment space. A guide for maintaining the piston oriented axially relative to the frame maintains piston alignment so that when the frame is fixed in place and tension is applied to the tensioning member, the compressing portion of the piston rod intrudes further into the liquid containment space, compressing the hydraulic fluid and loading the spring.
