BRACE LIMITING RANGE OF MOTION AND METHOD OF USING SAME
A brace is provided including an upper support arm, a lower support arm, and a hinge assembly. The hinge assembly includes an upper hinge plate coupled to the upper support arm and including a first plurality of teeth disposed along at least a portion of a perimeter of the upper hinge plate. The hinge assembly includes a lower hinge plate coupled to the lower support arm and including a second plurality of teeth disposed along at least a portion of a perimeter of the upper hinge plate. The hinge assembly includes an axle rotatably coupling the upper and lower hinge plates. The hinge assembly includes a locking element disposed on the upper hinge plate and including first and second protrusions configured to physically contact opposite sides of one of the second plurality of teeth in a first orientation, thereby prohibiting relative rotation between the upper and lower support arms.
Controllable passive artificial knee
An exoskeleton (100) adapted to be coupled to a lower extremity of a person includes a thigh link (102), a shank link (104) and a knee joint (106) allowing flexion and extension between the thigh and shank links (102, 104). A torque generator (156) connected to the knee joint (106) includes a wrap spring (110) having a first end (112) coupled to the thigh link (102), and a second end (118) coupled to an electric actuator (116) capable of selectively positioning the second end (118) of the wrap spring (110). A controller (120) causes the electric actuator (116) to position the wrap spring (110) to provide a selective torque between the thigh and shank links (102, 104) based on a signal (212, 214, 216) produced by a sensor (164, 166, 168).
UPPER EXTREMITY ASSISTANCE DEVICE
In one embodiment, the orthotic device can include a powered hand portion, a switching element, and a controller. The wearer can interact with the switching element to generate input signals for adjusting an operation of the powered hand portion. The controller can receive the input signals and generate control signals to accordingly adjust the operation of the powered hand portion. In some embodiments, a powered hand portion can be comprised of a plurality of linkages and at least one powered actuator to assist with an opening and closing of the hand portion. The plurality of linkages can be operated by at least one electric motor with quick-connect elements to link onto fingers of a user. In some embodiments, an electrically-actuated clutch mechanism can be affixed to an upper arm section and a lower arm section of an orthotic device. The clutch mechanism can be configured into different positions.
EXTERNAL ANKLE BRACE
An external ankle brace is disposed on the exterior of a shoe having a heel portion, a toe portion, a sole, and oppositely disposed sides. The external ankle brace comprises a rigid heel enclosure having a rear portion, configured to receive the heel of the shoe, and a forward portion having a medial sidewall and a lateral sidewall for collectively and concurrently at least partially encircling the sides of the shoe. A lateral upright extension is present. A medial upright extension is present. A lower fastening system comprises at least one lower adjustable connecting strap for extending underneath the sole of the shoe. An upper fastening system comprises at least one upper connecting strap for selectively connecting the lateral sidewall to the medial sidewall across the top of the shoe.
ACTIVE ASSIST ORTHOTIC
An elbow brace is retrofitted to provide a motor-hinged orthotic elbow brace that stabilizes the elbow of a user and provides assisted motion to prevent or reduce buildup of scar tissue and maintain the range of motion of the elbow. A user interface is coupled to the brace for tracking exercises and the angle of the elbow brace. The orthotic elbow brace can also assist the patient in moving the arm at one or more predetermined angles according to physician instructions.
Hip Orthotic with a Removable Rigid Brace Assembly
A hip joint orthotic that can be used in stages. In the first stage the orthotic includes a stiff relatively brace assembly that can limit the amount of allowed flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction. In the second stage the relatively stiff brace can be removed and the orthotic can be used as a soft wrap. In both stages the orthotic is configured to easily mount and retain a thermal pack in a desired position or positions. In many instances the thermal pack will be a cold pack, but in some cases a hot pack may be used as well.
Manually operated rotative locking device for orthopedic orthoses or braces
A blocking device for fastening orthoses used in the orthopedic-rehabilitation sector to parts of the body of a person comprises a casing housing a cable wound on a reel by the rotation of a knob restrained to the casing during the winding stage and partially releasable from the casing by pushing and/or pulling the knob, in order to operate with respect to a ratchet-type non-return system, wherein the ratchet-type non-return system consists of elastic tabs which are part of the casing, and an inner toothed edge of the knob. The knob is restrained in a rotating direction and unrestrained in an axial direction with respect to the reel by a pin with a shaped head, whereby the restraint between the knob and the reel is achieved by a shaped axial opening in the knob, which reflects the shape of the head of the pin, wherein maintaining the knob in the gripping/release positions is ensured by the concave profiles present on the shaped head of the pin and convex surfaces present in the opening of the knob, thereby allowing the knob to be moved from a gripping condition with the ratchet-type non-return system in the tightening and blocking stage to a release condition in the opening stage while maintaining control of the cable wound on the reel.
Orthopedic device
An orthopedic device, first and second struts, and a range-of-motion limiting pivot assembly connecting to the first and second struts. The pivoting assembly having an engagement member linked to a tab disposed and arranged for pulling radially outward away from a central axis of the pivoting assembly for adjusting the range of motion of the pivoting assembly.
Upper extremity assistance device
An orthotic device includes an upper arm section for receiving an upper portion of an arm of a subject, a forearm section for receiving a forearm section of the arm, and at least one elbow joint rotatably coupling the upper arm section and the forearm section. In the orthotic device, the forearm section includes a release control operatively coupled to the at least one elbow joint, where the release control is configured to transition the at least one elbow joint from a restricted motion state to a free motion state when the release control is activated.
Selectively adjustable arm and shoulder support
A contouring arm and shoulder support is provided that is secured to a supporting and stabilizing belt. The support system comprises a belt support and an arm support that are operatively interconnected and yet easily disassociated. The arm support provides dynamic support that allows the patient to move their injured arm if needed.
