A hinge assembly for use in an orthopedic or prosthetic system includes first and second connection members arranged to rotate relative to one another about at least one pivot point. At least one shaft member is rotatably attached to the first connection member. A translating member is attached to the at least one shaft member and is operatively connected to or meshes with the second connection member. Rotation of the at least one shaft member drives translation of the translating member along a length of the at least one shaft member. Translation of the translating member along the shaft member drives rotation of the second connection member relative to the first connection member.

Exoskeleton Device and Method of Impeding Relative Movement in the Exoskeleton Device
An exoskeleton device includes a first brace coupled to a first portion of a wearer of the exoskeleton device and a second brace coupled to a second portion of the wearer. A first joint connects the first and second braces and allows relative movement between the first and second braces. A first brake is controllable between an unactuated state and a plurality of actuated states, and the first brake impedes relative movement between the first and second braces at the first joint while the first brake is in one of the plurality of actuated states. A manual actuator is selectively used by the wearer during relative movement between the first and second braces. Use of the actuator causes the first brake to enter one of the plurality of actuated states such that relative movement between the first and second braces is impeded at the first joint.

Elbow and Forearm Orthosis
There is described an orthosis comprising: a first portion adapted to be secured to an upper arm region of a wearer; a second portion hingedly connected to the first portion and comprising a pair of elongate members spaced apart to extend along opposing sides of a lower arm region of the wearer, each of the elongate members terminate at a distal end adjacent to a wrist of the wearer and being connected by a connecter extending at least partially around the wrist of the wearer; wherein, the distal ends of the elongated members each have a connector element formed therein for facilitating engagement with the wearer's hand so as to maintain the wearer's hand in either a pronated or a supinated position.
Upper extremity assistance device
An orthotic device includes an upper arm section for receiving an upper portion of an arm of a subject, a forearm section for receiving a forearm section of the arm, and at least one elbow joint rotatably coupling the upper arm section and the forearm section. In the orthotic device, the forearm section includes a release control operatively coupled to the at least one elbow joint, where the release control is configured to transition the at least one elbow joint from a restricted motion state to a free motion state when the release control is activated.
