Multilayer dressing device and method for preventing and treating pressure ulcers and chronic wounds
20180369009 · 2018-12-27 ·

The present invention provides a device and method for preventing or curing pressure ulcers or chronic wounds. A multilayer dressing comprises a soft silicone jell layer of a suitable thickness which is placed in the multilayer dressing, above an absorbent layer. The matrix of the silicone jell layer is populated with a plurality of silicone beads of suitable size. The beads are connected to each other, and to the silicone jell layer. Breathing of wound and substantial supply of oxygen to the wound is duly insured for all layers of the multiple layer dressing. The beads play a pivotal role in promoting the effectiveness and performance of the multilayer dressing by acting as the plurality of effective cushions, as they absorb and uniformly redistribute a patient's body weight across the entire applied dressing area. The low adhering adhesive coating of about 5 mm in width is applied to the peripheral edges of all the layers. Unlike the multilayer dressing already available in the market, skipping the application of low adhering adhesive coatings on the entire top and bottom surfaces of the layers helps in promoting overall breathability and consequently, the efficiency of the multilayer dressing of the present invention.

Implementations of a medical pad having a perimeter side, a first surface, a second surface, and a plurality of openings. In some implementations, a method of using the medical pad includes positioning the medical pad on an area susceptible to the development of a bedsore or similar wound, such as a bony prominence or pressure point, to prevent the development of a bedsore or similar wound, and another method includes positioning the medical pad on a bedsore or similar wound to help the treatment and healing of the bedsore or similar wound.

FOOT PROTECTION SYSTEM

A foot protection system, including at least one toe pad worn on at least one toe of a foot to prevent friction during movement of the at least one toe pad on a ground surface, and at least one ball pad worn on a ball of the foot to prevent friction during movement of the at least one bail pad on the ground surface.

Blister Prevention System

A friction barrier adapted to position between a support surface and a skin surface, wherein said friction barrier comprises a generally flat sheet material generally conformable by placement between said support surface and said skin surface, or a pre-formed material placed between said support surface and said skin surface, wherein said friction barrier has first side adapted to face said skin surface, the first side having a static coefficient of friction which reduces one or more of the mechanical factors contributing to blister development when the skin rubs against a support surface, including friction, pressure, shear, or moisture

PROPHYLACTIC DRESSING

Described is a method of mitigating and/or preventing the onset of a pressure ulcer at an area of risk of developing a pressure ulcer, which includes the step of: a) applying a medical dressing to intact skin of a subject at the area of risk of developing the pressure ulcer, thereby mitigating and/or preventing the onset of the pressure ulcer, wherein the medical dressing has a gel pad arranged between a backing layer and an adhesive body contact layer, wherein a gel of the gel pad has a compressive strength of from 5 to 60 kPa at a strain of 50%, as measured according to a compression test.

Medical dressing

A medical dressing is described for prevention of pressure ulcers. The dressing has a gel pad and an anisotropic layer being stiffer in one layer direction. The dressing reduces the shear and compression forces on the skin and in the underlying the soft tissue layers and prevents the onset of pressure ulcers.

Modified member for preventing bedsore

The present invention relates to a modified member for preventing bedsores, which includes a stacked body composed of: a pad layer formed from synthetic resin foam and hydrocolloid or hydrogel, a cover layer which is integrally stacked on the outer surface of the pad layer, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer formed on the inner surface of the cover layer and having a pressure-sensitive adhesive, in which the cover layer includes an opening penetratingly formed at a central portion thereof to allow the patient's skin to be observed therethrough, thereby preventing bedsores from developing between the central part of the buttock and the anus and at bilateral femoral puncture sites of patients who have been bedridden for a long time.

Methods for limiting development of a skin wound

The present invention provides methods for limiting development of skin wounds, and also for treatment of one or more of erythemas, blisters, rashes, pruritis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, acne, and athlete's foot.

MEDICAL DRESSING

Described is a medical dressing that includes a backing layer, a body contact layer and a gel pad arranged between the backing layer and the body contact layer, wherein the backing layer and the body contact layer extend beyond a periphery of the gel pad to define a border portion around a contour of the pad, wherein the gel has a compressive strength of from 1 to 30 kPa at a strain of 25% and/or a compressive strength of from 5 to 70 kPa at a strain of 50%, as measured according to ASTM D3574-11, test C.

Prophylactic dressing

A medical dressing is described for prevention of pressure ulcers. The dressing has a gel pad having a low compressive strength; i.e. from 5 kPa to 60 kPa at a strain of 50%, as measured by the compression test described herein. The dressing reduces the shear and compression forces on the skin and in the underlying the soft tissue layers and prevents or mitigates the onset of pressure ulcers.
