ARTICLE OF MANUFACTURE PRESSURE RELIEVING PAD
An article of manufacture for a bony prominence under casts, splints and or other devices utilized to hold the limb in a fixed position for an extended period of time. The article consists of a pressure relieving pad from a base substrate with a predetermined design formed from a gel material with an adhesive quality. In another embodiment, the article consists of a pressure relieving pad formed from a gel material base substrate combined with a fibrous substrate with a predetermined design of the pressure relieving pad. Each article includes at least one ventilation channel cut through the base substrate and/or fibrous substrate, e.g. the ventilation channel may have a single or multiple cut incision. The ventilation channel functioning to increase the padding around the base of the prominence thereby providing extended comfort and fitting of a rigid splint, cast or other fixing device.
PROPHYLACTIC DRESSING
Described is a medical dressing that includes a gel pad arranged between a backing layer and an adhesive body contact layer, wherein a gel of the gel pad has a compressive strength of from 5 to 60 kPa at a strain of 50%, as measured according to a compression test, and wherein the gel pad has apertures that extend through the gel pad.
MEDICAL PAD
Implementations of a medical pad comprise a perimeter side, a first surface, a second surface, and a plurality of openings. In some implementations, a method of using the medical pad comprises positioning the medical pad on an area susceptible to the development of a bedsore or similar wound, such as a bony prominence or pressure point, to prevent the development of a bedsore or similar wound, and another method comprises positioning the medical pad on a bedsore or similar wound to help the treatment and healing of the bedsore or similar wound.
Medical dressing
A medical dressing is provided. The dressing has a central portion and a border portion, and comprises a backing layer, an adhesive body contact layer and a pad arranged in the central portion between the backing layer and the adhesive body contact layer. The pad is symmetric about a longitudinal center line and the dressing comprises a lobed portion on each side of the center line. The central portion of the dressing has a tensile strength in the longitudinal (y) direction of at least 60 N, preferably at least 70 N at an elongation of 25%, as measured by the test method ASTM D 882-12. The medical dressing may be used for pressure ulcer prevention, such as at the sacrum region of a human body.
