ENERGY GENERATION AND WATER CONSERVATION
20230003185 · 2023-01-05 · ·

The invention relates to energy generation and water conservation. There are many water systems which might lend themselves to energy extraction, such as canal systems. However, despite canal systems being around for hundreds of years, practical solutions for using the energy available have not been developed. The invention provides, among various examples, a system which can be associated with a lock in a canal and provides a flow control strategy responsive to water availability upstream of the lock. Thus electricity may be generated selectively in response to the lock state and energy demands but without adversely affecting the canal system by taking excess water. The system may be applied to multiple locks and may incorporate machine learning to evolve a strategy for a canal based on lock usage and energy demand.

A system and method provide integrated carbon-negative, geothermal-based, energy generation and storage. The embodiments produce dispatchable electricity at grid-scale by storing excess energy from the grid and generating its own energy. The excess energy may be taken from solar and wind sources. In one aspect, the subject technology is energy storage, energy generation, carbon utilization and sequestration, all in one. The technology has very high round-trip efficiency of storing energy and is carbon-negative which makes it far more sustainable than any competing energy storage technology.

Systems and generating power in an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) operation to supply electrical power. In embodiments, an inlet temperature of a flow of gas from a source to an ORC unit may be determined. The source may connect to a main pipeline. The main pipeline may connect to a supply pipeline. The supply pipeline may connect to the ORC unit thereby to allow gas to flow from the source to the ORC unit. Heat from the flow of gas may cause the ORC unit to generate electrical power. The outlet temperature of the flow of the gas from the ORC unit to a return pipe may be determined. A flow of working fluid may be adjusted to a percentage sufficient to maintain temperature of the flow of compressed gas within the selected operating temperature range.
