The present invention relates to a head support for supporting a patient's head while the patient is in a prone position. The head support comprises a body of compliant material whose shape provides a forehead support region, at least one further support region for supporting a lower portion of the patient's face, and a void which accommodates the patient's eyes, nose and mouth in use. According to one aspect of the invention, a viewing opening is provided which faces laterally and provides in use a line of sight from the exterior of the head support into the void, the viewing opening having a periphery which is an unbroken loop.

A method for monitoring an occupant of an occupant support comprises 1) establishing a lateral position history of the occupant, which history includes an assessment of how frequently the occupant's head undergoes a lateral transition on a head support, 2) establishing a vertical position history of the occupant which accounts for how frequently the weight of the occupant's head is applied to and removed from the head support, and 3) if the lateral position history indicates sustained repetitive lateral movement or the vertical history indicates other than sustained presence of the occupant's head on the head support, reporting that the occupant is in a state other than an acceptable state.

Head restraining apparatus for a medical procedure

A head restraining device is provided for securing a patient's head to a bed. The head restraining device has a frame, a lower compliant support strap, and an upper compliant support strap. The frame has a first anchor assembly, a second anchor assembly, and a connecting mechanism for connecting the frame to the bed. The compliant support straps have a first end and a second end and support a portion of the patient's head. The first end of the upper compliant support strap and the first end of the lower compliant support strap are securable by the first anchor assembly and the second end of the upper compliant support strap and the second end of the lower compliant support strap are securable by the second anchor assembly. The head restraining device may be used for any surgical procedure where head fixation is needed.

A cervical traction assembly for use with a patient support apparatus includes an adjustment carriage track member including a connecting bracket assembly that releasably connects to a mount support member of the patient support apparatus. The adjustment track member includes a track body including a pair of opposing sidewalls that are spaced-apart from each other to define an elongated channel therebetween. Each sidewall includes a guide track that extends along a length of the respective sidewall. A rope angle adjustment carriage is located within the channel. The rope angle adjustment carriage includes a first track engagement member that is received by one of the guide tracks of one of the sidewalls and a second track engagement member that is received by another of the guide tracks of another of the sidewalls. The first track engagement member has a locked configuration that inhibits movement of the rope angle adjustment carriage.

When user input to control the litter frame or support deck is received, the controller is configured to add a numeric indicator representative of the position of the litter frame or support deck to the screen. When a user input to carry out a function for which the apparatus is not in an acceptable state, the controller is configured to notify the user of this error and provide a control for remedying the error on the touchscreen. The controller is further configured to provide multiple levels of help information on the screen.
