A system for reducing falls includes a base having a polyhedron shape with: a first face configured to rest on a flat surface, a second face spaced apart from and parallel to the first face, and having a base diameter, and at least three sides extending between the first face and the second face. The system further includes a handle configured for gripping, and a shaft coupled to and extending between the handle and the second face of the base, having a shaft diameter, and extending outward from the base in a direction perpendicular to a plane defined by the second face. The base diameter is at least twice as large as the shaft diameter such that pressure applied to the second face of the base by a foot causes the handle to raise from a ground surface, and the base, handle, and shaft together function as a cane.

Multi-functional activity management system for elderly

A multi-functional activity management system for elderly utilizes prior art walking sticks to manage big data related to activity of elderly persons. In addition, new improvements have been made upon prior art walking sticks. By incorporating umbrella function into the walking stick, the stem portion becomes narrower and shorter, thereby making it easy to be inserted into the thin walking stick. New functions have been developed from the prior art walking sticks for better use by the elderly persons.

Patient Mobility Assessment Device
20180242888 · 2018-08-30 ·

Provided herein are patient mobility assessment devices having a mobility assistance device with an incorporated distance tracker for use in assessing the ambulation of a recovering medical patient. The distance tracker can be integrated into or removably attached to the mobility assistance device. The information obtained may be displayed on the mobility assistance device and/or at a nurse's station or other remote location for convenient monitoring of patient ambulation. Also provided herein are methods for evaluating patient ambulation using the mobility assessment device and optionally, provision of therapeutic ambulation protocols to a display on the device to assist with patient physical therapy and recovery.

Devices, systems, and methods for combining mobility and reaching aids

Systems, methods, and articles of manufacture for multi-segment weighted trekking poles are provided. A typical three-segment trekking (or other) pole may benefit from removable annular-shaped weights that may provide liquid storage and may be retained in position by one or more weight locks. The standard basket and tip protector may be replaced with a combined tip protector and basket element that threads onto a bottom segment of the pole.

Obstacle Avoidance Using Mobile Devices

Methods, systems, and products estimate distances to aid a visually impaired user of a mobile device. As the user carries the mobile device, a camera in the mobile device captures images of a walking cane. The images of the walking cane are analyzed to infer a distance between a tip of the walking cane and the mobile device. The distance may then be used by navigational tools to aid the visually impaired user.

Smart cane for a visually impaired individual

A smart cane for an individual includes a linear main frame rod (LMFR), a linear extending rod (LER) slidably connected to the LMFR, a load-bearing feet coupled to the LER, a top case assembly having a pivot connected to an end of the LMFR, and a hand grip coupled to an outer side of the top case assembly. A casing box of the top case assembly is in the form of an irregular hexagonal cell having an axis of symmetry that is coaxial with an axis of the hand grip. Two longest sides of the irregular hexagonal cell are opposite one another and two shortest sides of the irregular hexagonal cell are of equal length and are opposite one another.
