Vehicle heating system and method

Methods and system for providing heat to a vehicle are presented. In one example, a heat pump supplies thermal energy to an engine to reduce engine emissions during engine starting. Further, heating the engine via the heat pump may also reduce engine friction at colder ambient temperatures where oil viscosity may be increased.

CONTROL DEVICE FOR HYBRID VEHICLE

A control device for a hybrid vehicle is, in the process of stopping an internal combustion engine of the vehicle, capable of making twist angle fluctuation reduction control and crank angle position control mutually compatible. When a request for stopping the internal combustion engine has been issued, twist angle fluctuation reduction control is implemented without implementing crank angle position control, until, in the process of bringing the engine to a stopped state, the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine drops below the resonant rotational speed region of the torsional damper; and, after the rotational speed of the internal combustion engine has dropped below the resonant rotational speed region of the torsional damper in the process of bringing the engine to a stopped state, crank angle position control is implemented without implementing twist angle fluctuation reduction control, until stopping of the internal combustion engine has been completed.

Method for limiting engine torque when error occurs in water sensor of fuel filter
09784203 · 2017-10-10 · ·

A method for limiting an engine torque when a failure occurs in a water sensor of a fuel filter includes sensing the failure of the water sensor installed in the fuel filter through a failure diagnosis logic in a diesel hybrid vehicle. A current vehicle driving mode is checked when the failure of the water sensor is sensed. Whether or not a first time period elapses a first delay time after sensing the failure of the water sensor when the current vehicle driving mode is an engine driving mode is determined. The engine torque is limited and reduced when the first time period elapses the first delay time.

Device including a gear unit and an electric machine for a hybrid drive and hybrid drive

An assembly includes a transmission and an electric machine for a hybrid drive of a motor vehicle, and the transmission is a multi-stage standard transmission with first and second subtransmissions, each of which has a separate input shaft and shares an output shaft. Both input shafts are coupled to the shared output shaft via form locking shift elements of the subtransmissions. The assembly includes a first shiftable clutch which is allocated to a first input shaft such that the internal combustion engine is coupled to the first input shaft via the first shiftable clutch, and a second shiftable clutch which is allocated to the second input shaft such that the electric machine is coupled to the second input shaft via the second shiftable clutch. The electric machine is coupled to the internal combustion engine via a third shiftable clutch, and to the first input shaft via a fourth shiftable clutch.

Off-axis motor with hybrid transmission method and system
09777798 · 2017-10-03 · ·

A system and method for modifying a transmission in a gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle to couple the transmission to an off-axis electric motor. The transmission includes a motor-driven gear that replaces or modifies an engine-driven reverse gear. The motor-driven gear is hard-splined to an output shaft of the transmission. An electric motor is coupled to the output shaft of the transmission via the motor-driven gear. The electric motor may thus be oriented along an axis that differs from the axis of the transmission's output shaft.

System and method for determining engine disconnect clutch torque

A system and method for estimating disconnect clutch torque during engine start with the motor in vehicles having an engine selectively coupled to the motor and transmission may be configured to control motor torque based on a clutch torque estimated from a difference in a measured powertrain state and a predicted powertrain state using motor torque as an input. The powertrain states may include, for example, motor speed, turbine speed, engine speed and clutch torque. An adaptive gain may be used to drive the difference between measured and estimated clutch torque toward zero.
