The EGR estimation method includes: opening the recirculation valve during supercharging, and estimating the EGR rate after closing the EGR valve based on the EGR rate before opening the recirculation valve.
Methods and systems for reducing hydrocarbon emissions
Methods and systems for heating an emission control device are provided. In one example, a method for a vehicle comprises during an engine cold start, heating an emission control device of the engine using a dual heat exchanger to heat secondary air and cool exhaust gas, and further heat secondary air with an electric heater. The method further comprises directing the heated secondary air to each exhaust runner of the engine via individual air injectors to mix with exhaust gas. In this way, an improved mixture of air and exhaust reduces catalyst light-off time and increases conversion efficiency, thereby reducing hydrocarbon emissions during engine cold start.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DIAGNOSING NOx SENSOR BASED ON AMMONIA SLIP
A method for diagnosing a NOx sensor is provided. The method includes receiving data indicative of operating conditions of an engine or an aftertreatment system; determining, during a first period of time, that an amount of NOx output from the aftertreatment system satisfies a low NOx operating mode condition; determining, during a second period of time, that operating conditions for ammonia slip are present based on data regarding operation of the aftertreatment system; responsive to the determination that operating conditions for ammonia slip are present, determining that the amount of NOx output from the aftertreatment system satisfies a high NOx operating mode condition; comparing a difference between a minimum value from the first period of time and a maximum value from a second period of time to a diagnostic threshold; and responsive to the difference being less than the diagnostic threshold, setting an alert.
Exhaust species tracking and notification system
Systems and apparatuses include a circuit structured to receive information indicative of a catalyst health, determine a catalyst health management criteria has been met based on the information, determine a catalyst loading based on the information and the catalyst health management criteria being met, and compare the determined catalyst loading to a predetermined loading limit. A notification circuit is coupled to the circuit and structured to provide a notification when the determined catalyst load exceeds the predetermined loading limit.
METHOD FOR ASCERTAINING AN EXHAUST GAS COMPOSITION OF AN EXHAUST GAS OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for ascertaining an exhaust gas composition of an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine with regard to an ammonia fraction and a nitrogen oxides fraction in an exhaust gas system including an SCR catalytic converter. The method includes detecting, using a sensor, a first signal whose magnitude is a function of the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas upstream from the SCR catalytic converter, detecting using a sensor a second signal whose magnitude is a function of the ammonia fraction and the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas downstream from the SCR catalytic converter, storing the two signals over an observation period, and ascertaining the ammonia fraction and optionally the nitrogen oxides fraction of the exhaust gas downstream from the at least one SCR catalytic converter using a calculation rule that uses the two signals during the observation period as input variables.
On-board diagnostics of a turbocharger system
A turbocharger system (1) of a combustion engine (4) comprises a turbocharger turbine (5) operable by exhaust gases, a valve (7) configured to control gas flow of pressurized gas from a pressurized gas reservoir (6) to the turbocharger turbine (5), and a sensor (8). Turbocharger system operation comprises injecting a test pulse of pressurized gas from the pressurized gas reservoir (6) to drive the turbocharger turbine (5) by means of controlling the valve (7), detecting an impact of injected pressurized gas on the turbocharger turbine (5) by means of the sensor (8), collecting data from the sensor (8), and diagnosing the turbocharger system (1) by evaluating an operational response of the turbocharger turbine (5) as a result of the injected test pulse of pressurized gas, based on the collected data.

Braking force control system, device, and method
A vehicular breaking force control system that includes a control device including a processor that acquires a plurality of longitudinal accelerations from a driving assistance system, and calculates a driving/braking request when the vehicle is in a coasting state in which an acceleration operation or a deceleration operation are not performed during running of the vehicle. The processor further acquires a driving force lower limit set for a powertrain actuator having a set gear ratio, and distributes the driving/braking request to at least one of (i) a powertrain system including the powertrain actuator and (ii) a brake system including a brake actuator. The driving/braking request is distributed to the at least one of the powertrain system and the brake system based on the acquired driving force lower limit.
Internal combustion engine system and a method of operating an internal combustion system
Provided are a method and an ICE system, including an internal combustion engine including a first and a second set of cylinders. A first and a second EGR valve control flow of exhaust gas from the cylinders to an EGR conduit. A controller controls the closing of the second EGR valve, thereby preventing flow of exhaust gas from the second set of cylinders to the EGR conduit. The second EGR valve is upstream of a turbine. The controller is configured to activate a fuel injector for late post injection of fuel into the second set of cylinders when the second EGR valve is closed, so that at least a part of the fuel that exits the second set of cylinders is uncombusted.
