Provided is an ignition control device capable of suppressing wear of an ignition plug due to occurrence of a re-strike without adding a component. An ECU 123 used as an ignition control device includes: an ignition signal calculation unit 203 that calculates a start timing and an end timing of re-energization with a primary current in one ignition process, compares the end timing of the re-energization with the timing at which the frequency of occurrence of a re-strike decreases, and determines whether to perform the re-energization; and an ignition signal generation unit 204 that generates an ignition signal for generating at least one or more spark discharges in the ignition process, outputs the ignition signal to the ignition coil, then generates the ignition signal when the ignition signal calculation unit determines to perform the re-energization, outputs the ignition signal to the ignition coil at the start timing of the re-energization, and does not generate the ignition signal when the ignition signal calculation unit determines not to perform the re-energization.

OFFLINE MEASUREMENT OF HONEYCOMB BODY FILTRATION EFFICIENCY

Apparatus and methods are disclosed which are capable of being used to determine filtration efficiency of a filter body even in a clean state. Methods of determining a filtration efficiency of a filter including forcing an inlet flow comprised of a gas (such as air) flow into the inlet end of the filter at a set flow rate, introducing particles such as smoke particles into the inlet flow, and optically counting the number of particles entering and exiting the filter during a sampling event, such as with diffraction based optical particle counters positioned upstream and downstream of the filter. Preferably the gas flow is a soot-free flow stream which does not load the honeycomb filter body with contaminants that need to be removed or burned out. The filter body can thus remain in an essentially clean state even after testing its filtration efficiency.

An apparatus for heating an exhaust gas after-treatment unit in a vehicle has, as a drive source, both a combustion engine and an electric motor. The apparatus includes: a honeycomb body configured for exhaust gas to flow therethrough, the honeycomb body having a hollow, through which hollow the exhaust gas flows; and at least one electric heating element arranged in the hollow so as to heat the honeycomb body. The honeycomb body includes a plurality of metal foils stacked one on top of the other, which metal foils form between them a plurality of flow channels, through which a flow can pass along an axial direction, wherein the hollow of the honeycomb body extends in a radial direction, in which the at least one heating element is accommodated.

Method for detecting coking in the intake tract of an internal combustion engine

A method detects a fault, in particular coking, in the intake tract of an internal combustion engine with direct fuel injection, a throttle valve, and a variable intake valve lift controller. The method has the steps of a) carrying out a first quantity deviation test, by which a first air ratio value is ascertained that is formed from a lambda value, which is measured during the first quantity deviation test, and a desired lambda value of the fuel combustion in the fuel chambers of the internal combustion engine, wherein in the first quantity deviation test, a load control is carried out by the variable intake valve lift controller; b) carrying out a second quantity deviation test, by which a second air ratio value is ascertained that is formed from a lambda value, which is measured during the second quantity deviation test, and a desired lambda value of the fuel combustion in the fuel chambers of the internal combustion engine, wherein in the second quantity deviation test, a load control is carried out by the throttle valve; and lastly c) determining a comparison result from the first air ratio value and the second air ratio value, the presence of a fault in the intake tract of the internal combustion engine being detectable using the comparison result.

A method includes: determining that at least one cylinder of a first cylinder bank of an engine is active; determining that at least one cylinder of a second cylinder bank of the engine is inactive; receiving an inlet temperature of a selective catalytic reduction system; comparing the inlet temperature to a temperature setpoint; and adjusting at least one of a first exhaust manifold pressure setpoint for the first cylinder bank or a second exhaust manifold pressure setpoint for the second cylinder bank based on the comparison.

An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pump arranged in an exhaust gas recirculation duct extending between the ICE and EATS, wherein the ICE system has a normal operation mode for transporting, by means of the EGR pump, at least a portion of said exhaust gas to upstream of the ICE. The ICE system further includes a heating device arranged upstream of at least one exhaust aftertreatment devices of said EATS and the ICE system has a pre-heat operation mode for transporting, by means of the EGR pump, exhaust gas and/or air through said heating device and then to said at least one of said exhaust aftertreatment devices.
