METHOD OF FORMING A THERMAL BARRIER COATING SYSTEM WITH ENGINEERED SURFACE ROUGHNESS
A method of manufacturing a substrate (16) with a ceramic thermal barrier coating (28, 32). The interface between layers of the coating contains an engineered surface roughness (12, 24) to enhance the mechanical integrity of the bond there between. The surface roughness is formed in a surface of a mold (10,20) and is infused by a subsequently cast layer of material (16, 28). The substrate may be partially sintered (76) prior to application of the coating layer(s) and the coated substrate and coating layer(s) may be co-sintered to form a fully coherent strain-free interlayer.
Weighted inlays for transaction cards
An inlay for a transaction card includes a weighted member and a surround positioned around a perimeter of the weighted member. A first film is positioned on a first surface of the weighted member and a first surface of the surround and a second film is positioned on a second surface of the weighted member and a second surface of the surround.
TOUCH SCREEN SHIELD
A shield that is attachable to a touch sensitive screen is disclosed. The shield may be attached to the touch sensitive screen only at its outer peripheral portion. An air gap is enclosed between the shield and the touch sensitive screen to form a planar air bearing. The shield preferably does not touch the active area of the touch sensitive screen when the user is not touching the shield but only viewing the touch sensitive screen through the shield. This mitigates unwanted optical artifacts such as trapped air bubbles, Newton rings and chromatic interference while maintaining the sensitivity of the touch sensitive screen.
PAINT MASK ASSEMBLY AND METHODS OF USE
Paint mask assemblies are described herein in various embodiments. A paint mask assembly includes a window portion having a removable mask affixed thereto. The paint mask assembly can be affixed over a mark on a surface so that the mark is visible through the window portion of the paint mask assembly. When the paint mask assembly is painted, the paint is applied over the removable mask, but the window portion remains unpainted. When the removable mask is removed, the mark remains visible through the window portion of the paint mask assembly.

A sealed structure which has high sealing capability and whose border can be slim is provided. The sealed structure includes a pair of substrates whose respective surfaces face each other with a space therebetween, and a glass layer which is in contact with the substrates, defines a space between the substrates, and has at least one corner portion and side portions in continuity with the corner portion. The width of the corner portion of the glass layer is smaller than or equal to that of the side portion of the same. The sealed structure may comprise a highly reliable light-emitting element including a layer containing a light-emitting organic compound provided between a pair of electrodes.

This invention relates to elastomeric coatings for electronics. Disclosed is a electronic device comprising a substrate layer, a conductive layer and an encapsulant layer. The encapsulant layer comprises at least a butyl rubber material. The butyl rubber encapsulant prevents a change in resistivity of the conductive layer following exposure to nitric acid vapour for 12 hours or hydrochloric acid vapour for 10 hours.
Composite structure
A composite structure includes a stepped portion formed by laminating a plurality of plies with end surfaces thereof being shifted from each other. The composite structure includes a body portion which includes a first structure portion where a first ply is laminated on a top layer of the first structure portion, a second structure portion where a second ply is laminated on a top layer of the second structure portion, and the stepped portion disposed between the first structure portion and the second structure portion, the second ply being positioned at a distance from the first ply in a lamination direction, and a first cover ply which includes a covering portion covering the stepped portion, one end portion, and the other end portion and is formed so as to cover only a part of a surface of the first ply or a part of a surface of the second ply.

STRUCTURAL LAMINATE COMPONENT
The present invention provides a structural laminate component that includes first and second panels formed of a sheet material, the top and bottom edges and the lateral sides combining to form an outer perimeter edge. A core is sandwiched between the first and second panels, the core having an outer peripheral edge spaced inwardly from the outer perimeter edges of the first and second panels. An adhesive is applied between the first and second panels, the adhesive directly joining the inner surface of the first panel with the inner surface of the second panel in an area extending around and adjacent to the outer perimeter edge to form an integral frame that provides aesthetics and structure to the component.
