Cam carrier assembly for an internal combustion engine

A camshaft assembly includes a cam carrier and a camshaft that is rotatable relative to the cam carrier in a first configuration and fixed against rotation in a second configuration. The assembly further includes a cam target wheel that includes notches, a first and second half-wheel, and a groove. The assembly additionally includes a camshaft position sensor holder that includes a camshaft sensor bore that provides access to the groove. Also, the assembly includes a camshaft position sensor received in the camshaft sensor bore in the first configuration. Moreover, the assembly includes a locking mechanism received in the camshaft sensor bore in the second configuration. The locking mechanism includes an engagement member configured to selectively engage the groove for locking the camshaft into position relative to the cam carrier.

Method for Mounting an Oil Sump and Arrangement of an Oil Sump on an Assembly formed by a Crankcase and a Flywheel Housing
20170159518 · 2017-06-08 ·

An oil sump is mounted on an assembly formed by a crankcase and a flywheel housing of an internal combustion engine. The flywheel housing has a first parting plane to the crankcase and to the oil sump. In mounted state, the joint faces of the flywheel housing, the crankcase, and the oil sump lie on each other. The crankcase has a second parting plane to the oil sump. In mounted state the joint faces of the crankcase and the oil sump lie on each other. At least one guide is provided between the flywheel housing and the oil sump, the guide orienting at least the joint faces of the oil sump and the crankcase relative to each other during connection of the oil sump to the assembly formed by the crankcase and flywheel housing, such that on creation of the abutment connection between the oil sump and the crankcase, these joint faces are oriented substantially planar parallel.

APPARATUS FOR MODIFYING AN ENGINE OIL COOLING SYSTEM
20170145894 · 2017-05-25 ·

A method of modifying the oil cooling system of a diesel engine includes the steps of removing the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger and installing a manifold having a configuration adapted to match the mounting configuration of the oil passages of the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The manifold has an oil outlet port directed to a remotely mounted oil cooler. The manifold also has a water passage having a configuration that is adapted to match the mounting configuration of the water passages of the original equipment liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The water passage causes the entirety of the flow of water to be discharged back to the water cooling system of the engine where it is circulated by the water pump through the water cooling passages in the engine.

DMZ fracture boundary limit

A method of establishing a boundary for a material improvement process on a workpiece is disclosed. The method may include identifying a maximum allowable damage depth on the workpiece; identifying a maximum constant thickness line on the workpiece at an extent of the maximum allowable damage depth; identifying a peak vibratory stress gradient on the workpiece; identifying a peak combined engine stress on the workpiece; and specifying the boundary for the material improvement process on the workpiece relative to the maximum constant thickness line, peak vibratory stress gradient, and peak combined engine stress.

Balancer device for internal combustion engine and its assembly method

A balancer device for an internal combustion engine includes upper and lower housings made of aluminum alloy. The upper housing includes a leg part fixed to the engine. The lower housing is coupled to the upper housing by tightening bolts. A pair of balancer shafts are rotatably supported by the upper and lower housings. A positioning pin is disposed at a distal end portion of the leg part for positioning the upper housing with respect to the engine by positional correspondence to a positioning hole of the engine when the tightening bolts are tightened. The leg part is inclined outwardly with respect to a body of the upper housing such that a distal end of the positioning pin is located outside of a proximal end of the leg part with respect to the body of the upper housing when the tightening bolts are loosened.
