POCKETED SPRING UNITS
A method and apparatus for the production of a pocketed spring unit, the method comprising the steps of compressing and feeding a plurality of springs (42) into troughs (2A, 4A) or castellations in opposed conveyor belts (2,4), moving said springs (42) from said troughs (2A, 4A) or castellations to a position between upper and lower layers of fabric or other material (16A, 18A), step-wise advancing said material (16A, 18A) and said springs (42) in the direction of the output of the apparatus and welding together said lengths of fabric or other material (16A, 18A) at each step-wise advancement by a plurality of sequentially controlled welding anvils (10) so as to form a plurality of discrete pockets (46) each containing a spring (42). Apparatus for carrying out the method is disclosed.

Continuous pocketed spring unit and method of manufacture
A method of forming a pocketed spring unit (10), comprising a plurality of pocketed spring portions (22, 24, 26) arranged in a row, is described. The pocketed spring portions each comprise a portion of coil spring encased in a pocket (32, 34, 36), wherein the axis of the spring is substantially transverse to the row. The method comprises the steps of: forming a continuous coil spring, encasing the spring in a pocket and deforming the encased spring to form the pocketed spring portions.

Mattress including flat springs
Mattresses including a chassis core including a rigid or semi-rigid base sheet; a plurality of flat springs spaced apart from one another in parallel rows, wherein each one of the plurality of flat springs comprises a first terminal end, a second terminal end, and a flexible arcuate member extending from the first terminal end to the second terminal end, and wherein a center of an arc defined by the arcuate member is fixedly attached to the rigid base sheet; a body support disk disposed on each one of the first and second terminal ends. The body support disk supports the load of an individual. In some embodiments, the body support disk is pivotably connected to each terminal end.
Method of making strings of pocketed springs
An apparatus for ventilating a web of material used in the manufacture of pocketed springs may be removably attached to a pocket coiler. The apparatus has an upper movable portion which pivots relative to a stationary portion. The stationary portion may be removably attached to the pocket coiler. Each portion has at least one roller, a web of material passing between the rollers during use. One of the rollers may have protrusions to create openings in the material before the material enters the pocket coiler.

Systems and methods for cushion supports
The mattress assemblies have an array of springs extending from a sheet. Each spring in the array may be manufactured by choosing a position for the spring, cutting a profile of the sheet spring in the sheet, peeling back or bending the profile or tab of the sheet, and shaping the profile to form the sheet spring. The array of springs may be formed from creating a plurality of such springs along rows and columns. In certain embodiments, multiple sheets may be stacked to form the sheet spring array.
SPRING ASSEMBLY
A method of assembling a spring inside of a tube includes providing a coil spring and a tube having a first retaining structure at a first end of the tube. The method includes positioning a rod in the tube. The spring is positioned in the tube, and a second retaining structure is attached to the rod with the spring positioned between the first and second retaining structures. A force is applied to the spring, and the second retaining structure is fixed at a position wherein the spring provides a desired preload.
