Bearing retention method and apparatus
A method of assembling a bearing assembly includes fitting a first ring onto a first end of a gear shaft. A second ring is fed into a slot in the first ring. The second ring is driven through the slot in the first ring. The second ring is positioned within the first ring. The second ring is positioned about the gear shaft such that a first end and a second end of the second ring are covered by a solid portion of the first ring.
Rotary wing aircraft bearing for rotary wing aircraft motions
A rotary wing aircraft bearing that provides a constrained relative motion between a first rotary wing aircraft member and a second rotary wing aircraft member. The bearing includes an elastomeric mold bonded laminated bearing stack, the elastomeric mold bonded laminated bearing stack including a plurality of mold bonded alternating layers of nonelastomeric shim member layers and elastomeric shim members layers, the alternating layers having an exterior surface and an interior center distal from the exterior surface. At least one of the elastomeric shim members layers has an interior elastomer region distal from the exterior surface, the interior elastomer region formed an interior cured elastomer composition having at least a first interior optical characteristic ingredient, and an exterior elastomer region encompassing the interior elastomer region, the exterior elastomer region proximate the exterior surface, the exterior elastomer region formed from an exterior cured elastomer composition having at least a second exterior optical characteristic ingredient, the at least second exterior optical characteristic ingredient different than the interior cured elastomer composition first interior optical characteristic ingredient, wherein with an elastomer void crack propagating from the exterior surface inward towards the interior elastomer region and a repeated rotary wing aircraft relative motion between the first rotary wing aircraft member and the second rotary wing aircraft member generates a plurality of interior cured elastomer composition crumbs to be expelled from the elastomer void, the interior cured elastomer composition crumbs optically distinguishable from the exterior cured elastomer composition.
Self locking bearing preload adjuster
A bearing preload adjuster for a bicycle crank set and bottom bracket comprises an adjustment ring for coupling with a bicycle crank arm, a movable plunger comprising an external thread for rotatably coupling with the adjustment ring. The adjustment ring is rotated in order to cause the plunger to extend along an axis of the bottom bracket and apply pressure to a bottom bracket bearing inner race. The adjustment ring is rotated until the clearance in the bearing assemblies and the play in the bottom bracket assembly has been eliminated. This allows the crank assembly to rotate freely, while preventing the crank assembly from sliding side to side inside the bearing bores and along the axis of the crank spindle.
Apparatus and method for removing or installing a bearing unit in a wind turbine bedplate with an adjustable bearing support
An apparatus and method for removing or installing a bearing unit at the downwind end of the bedplate in wind turbine uses a frame erected at the downwind end of the bedplate. The frame has cradle members located such that the bearing unit can be slid out of the bedplate and supported on the cradle members, or supported on the cradle members and pushed into the bedplate.
BEARING ASSEMBLY AND METHOD
A bearing assembly is disclosed. The bearing assembly includes a first race. Further, the bearing assembly includes a second race disposed concentric to the first race, where the second race has a radius that changes along an axial length of the bearing assembly. The bearing assembly also includes a housing disposed around the second race and operatively coupled to the second race. Moreover, the bearing assembly includes a plurality of support structures configured to detachably couple the second race to the housing, where the plurality of support structures are configured to disengage the second race from the housing to allow motion of the second race when a torque on the second race is greater than a threshold torque value.
Method of and a device for protecting a motor in a pod against shaft bending shocks
A method and a device for protecting an electric motor in a pod unit for propulsion of marine vessels against shaft bending shocks when the blades of the pod propeller hit ice blocks or other hard objects, said motor having a drive shaft, a rotor and a stator, said shocks tending to momentarily bend the drive shaft (3) to such an extent that the rotor (41) will come into contact with the stator. The rotor is prevented from coming in detrimental contact with the stator by providing at least two members, which together form a radial plain bearing having mating arcuate bearing surfaces, which during normal operation of the motor are spaced from one another by a gap and come in contact with one another only at extreme loads with short durations.
Method for producing a connecting element for transmitting rotational movements
A method may be used to produce a connecting element for transmitting rotational movements, wherein the connecting element has a joint outer part or flange and a connecting pin. The object of providing a method for producing a connecting element with a joint outer part or flange and a connecting pin, with which method weight-optimized connecting elements can be produced in a simple manner, is achieved in that a round-plate-like or tubular blank is deformed by flow forming or flow turning to form the connecting element.
METHOD OF MOUNTING A BEARING TO AN AIR COMPRESSOR, AND AIR COMPRESSOR HAVING A BEARING MOUNTED BY THE METHOD
A method of mounting a bearing to an air compressor including a shaft element having a first end defining a central cylindrical recess and a second is disclosed, which includes the steps of: fixing the second end of the shaft element to a center of a gear; inserting the first end of the shaft element through a central hole of a bearing to have an annular step of the shaft element abutted an inner ring of the bearing; and hitting the first end of the shaft element by a striking tool with a central pin to form an outwardly extending rim on the first end of the shaft element. With the method, the bearing can be firmly fixed between the outwardly extending rim and the annular step of the shaft element.
