20210093518 · 2021-04-01 ·

This disclosure describes a process for preparing silica-coated calcium carbonate particles, involving the steps of preparing an aqueous carbonate slurry containing calcium carbonate particles, adding at least one silicate composition to the aqueous carbonate slurry to obtain a carbonate-silicate slurry, lowering a pH of the carbonate-silicate slurry by adding at least one acidic compound to obtain a pH-adjusted slurry containing the silica-coated calcium carbonate particles, and isolating the silica-coated calcium carbonate particles—in which at the adding of the acidic compound is controlled such that a final pH of the pH-adjusted slurry ranges from about 7 to about 10, and the silica-coated calcium carbonate particles include a porous coating having an average pore diameter ranging from 2 nm to 50 nm. This disclosure also describes articles and compositions containing the silica-coated calcium carbonate particles, as well as hollow silica spheres formed from the silica-coated calcium carbonate particles.

Skin care formulations containing copolymers and inorganic metal oxide particles

Provided are skin care compositions that are useful as SPF and UV absorption boosters in formulations containing inorganic metal oxides. The compositions comprise (a) 0.1 to 20 weight % inorganic metal oxide particles, based on the weight of the composition, (b) 0.1 to 15 weight % copolymer particles dispersed in an aqueous medium, wherein the copolymer particles comprise polymerized units derived from (i) 0.1 to 20 weight % of phosphorus acid monomers, and (ii) 80 to 99.9 weight % of comonomers, and (c) a dermatologically acceptable carrier. Also provided are methods of protecting skin from UVA and UVB damage comprising topically administering such compositions to the skin, and methods of boosting the SPF or UV absorption of a sunscreen composition containing inorganic metal oxide particles comprising including such copolymer particles in the composition.

POLYURETHANE GEL COMPOSITION AND USE THEREOF
20210102025 · 2021-04-08 ·

Provided is a polyurethane gel composition containing A and B below. Here, A represents a polyurethane obtained by reaction of (a) a hydrogenated polybutadiene having isocyanate groups at the terminals and (b) a glycol represented by HO—R.sub.3—OH (wherein R.sub.3 represents a linear or branched C2 to C6 alkylene group optionally having an ether bond), or A represents a polyurethane obtained by reaction of (c) a hydrogenated polybutadiene having hydroxyl groups at the terminals, (d) a diisocyanate compound, and the (b) glycol represented by HO—R.sub.3—OH (wherein R.sub.3 represents a linear or branched C2 to C6 alkylene group optionally having an ether bond), and B represents an oil agent. The polyurethane gel composition of the present invention is particularly useful as a raw material for cosmetics since a film of an oil-soluble gel obtained using the polyurethane gel composition is exceptionally excellent in any point of transparency, high gloss, elasticity, and resilience.

A non-pyrogenic preparation containing nanoparticles synthesized by magnetotactic bacteria for medical or cosmetic applications. The nanoparticles are constituted by a crystallized mineral central part including predominantly an iron oxide, as well as a surrounding coating without material from the magnetotactic bacteria.

A METHOD OF PREPARING SILICA NANOCAPSULES AND SILICA NANOCAPSULES
20210100753 · 2021-04-08 ·

There is provided a method of preparing silica nanocapsules, the method comprising mixing a surfactant with water at a temperature that is above the gel-to-liquid transition temperature of the surfactant to form a mixture, passing the mixture one or more times through at least one pore to obtain a dispersion of vesicles, and adding a silica precursor to the dispersion of vesicles to form silica nanocapsules. Also provided is a silica nanocapsule formed from a vesicle template, and a method of delivering one or more types of molecules to a subject. In a specific embodiment, hollow silica nanocapsules having substantially lens-shaped are synthesized by employing dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (DODAB) or dioctadecyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DODAC) as the vesicle template and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica precursor.
