An injector has a cartridge door movable between a fully closed position and a fully open position. A power supply is employed to power at least one power-operated component of the injector. A power supply circuit electrically connects the power supply with the at least one power-operated component. An electrically insulated arm is movable from a first state, in which the electrically insulated arm electrically disconnects the power supply from the circuit, to a second state, in which the electrically insulated arm connects the power supply with the circuit to provide power to the at least one power-operated component. The insulated arm is coupled to the cartridge door and initially positioned in the first state thereof in the fully closed position of the cartridge door, whereby movement of the cartridge door out of the fully closed position toward the fully open position moves the arm to the second state thereof.

Systems and methods are provided for measuring depth, position, and/or angle of a cannula in a medical drug delivery device. In particular, a drug delivery device having a cannula is positioned adjacent to tissue, a voltage pulse is provided to the cannula, a charge is measured at an electrode in the drug delivery device, and the depth of penetration of the cannula is determined based in part on the charge at the first electrode. Systems and methods described herein can be used to determine subcutaneous insertion depth in a wearable bolus injector. In some implementations, insertion depth determination is achieved through capacitive sensors which measure needle depth in a drug delivery device.

TRANSFUSION PUMP WITH AN INSERTION DEVICE

A pump assembly for pumping a medication through a cannula, said pump assembly comprising a housing adapted to be attached to a skin of a patient and containing a reservoir assembly having a variable volume liquid chamber configured to contain the medication upon filling of the reservoir assembly, a variable volume gas chamber configured to contain air before filling of the reservoir assembly and a pressure chamber configured to contain a pressure generating element, the liquid chamber, gas chamber and pressure chamber are fluidly sealed with respect to each other; the liquid chamber is selectably fluidly couplable with the cannula and the gas chamber is fluidly couplable with the atmosphere.

Apparatus is described for administering a substance to a subject. A vial contains the substance and a stopper is disposed within the vial and is slidably coupled to the vial. A first threaded element is (a) rotatable with respect to the vial and (b) substantially immobile proximally with respect to the vial during rotation of the first threaded element. A second threaded element is threadedly coupled to the first threaded element. At least a distal end of the second threaded element is substantially non-rotatable with respect to the vial, and the distal end of the second threaded element defines a coupling portion that couples the second threaded element to the stopper. The first threaded element, by rotating, linearly advances the stopper and at least the distal end of the second threaded element toward a distal end of the vial. Other embodiments are also described.
