20190248954 · 2019-08-15 ·

Disclosed herein are polyesters and articles made therefrom. The article comprising a substrate comprising a first surface and a second surface, the second surface in contact with an outside environment, wherein the substrate comprises a polymer comprising poly(trimethylene furandicarboxylate) (PTF), and wherein the polymer provides an improvement in gas barrier properties of the substrate as compared to a substrate comprising nascent poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET).

OXYGEN SCAVENGERS

Described herein are oxygen scavengers, oxygen scavenging polymeric compositions, and oxygen scavenging articles. The polymeric compositions comprising the oxygen scavengers may have utility in packaging, sealing, wrapping, and storing oxygen-sensitive substances, e.g., to preserve freshness of foods, beverages, and the like.

Integral hot melt adhesive packaging films and use thereof

Propylene polymer based packaging films for encapsulating hot melt adhesives are disclosed. The packaging films are readily miscible with the various hot melt adhesive chemistries during the melting stage without deleteriously affecting the adhesive properties, making the packaging film particularly well suited for packaging hot melt adhesives in a pillow, cylinder, pouch, block, cartridge and like forms.

Extrusion Blow-Molded Articles and Process for Their Production
20190193351 · 2019-06-27 ·

The present application relates to extrusion blow-molded articles comprising a polypropylene layer, said polypropylene layer consisting of a polypropylene composition comprising a specific random copolymer of propylene and at least one comonomer. The present application also relates to a process for the production of such extrusion blow-molded articles.

Preform extended finish for processing light weight ecologically beneficial bottles
10329043 · 2019-06-25 · ·

Disclosed are preforms which incorporate improvements in the region of the neck and upper segment of the body to allow the production of lightweight containers, such as bottles suitable for containing water or other beverages. In accordance with certain embodiments, the improvements include a thinner neck finish area than conventional bottles, where the thinner area is extended into the upper segment of the body portion below the support ring. Reducing the thickness in these areas of the bottle allows for less resin to be used in forming the preform and bottle.

MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE PACKAGE FOR BANANAS

There is provided an enclosure comprising: a polymeric film; wherein said polymeric film comprises one or more copolymers of ethylene with a polar monomer; and wherein the oxygen transmission rate of said enclosure is 8,000 to 16,000 cm3/hour. Also provided is a method of handling bananas comprising: (a) harvesting green bananas; (b) then placing said green bananas into such an enclosure; (c) then storing said enclosure at 20 C. or lower for 1 week or longer; (d) then ripening said bananas or allowing said bananas to ripen.

Lightweight plastic container and preform

A plastic preform includes a hollow body portion including a closed base portion and a lower portion and a lower portion extending upwardly from the closed bottom portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the lower portion. The neck portion includes a dispensing opening positioned at a top of the neck portion, threads positioned below the dispensing opening, a tamper-evident formation having a lower surface and positioned directly below the threads, and a support flange having an upper surface and a lower surface and positioned below the tamper-evident formation. In an embodiment, the plastic preform is formed of a material comprising polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and a vertical distance from the lower surface of the tamper-evident formation to the lower surface of the support flange is from 0.125 to 0.150 inches. Containers and methods for molding preforms and making containers are also disclosed.

Formation of thermoplastic parts

A method and apparatus is presented. A portion is cut from a thermoplastic sheet of a first thermoplastic material based on a three dimensional model. The portion is secured to a mold. The portion and the mold are heated under vacuum to form a structure. The structure may take the form of a protective covering. In some illustrative examples, the mold may be formed of a second thermoplastic material based on the three dimensional model using additive manufacturing.

Ethylene-based polymer, manufacturing method of ethylene-based polymer and manufacturing method of catalyst for polymerization, and molded article of hollow plastics containing ethylene-based polymer and use thereof

An object of the invention is to provide an ethylene-based polymer excellent in moldability and durability, and also excellent in the balance of stiffness and durability, and to provide a molded product of hollow plastic using the ethylene-based polymer. The ethylene-based polymer according to the invention is an ethylene-based polymer having specific characteristics and manufactured by a homopolymerization of ethylene or a copolymerization of ethylene and -olefin using a chromium catalyst.
