Wear detection for coated belt or rope
09796561 · 2017-10-24 · ·

A method of wear detection of a coated belt or rope includes connecting a wear detection unit to one or more monitoring strands and/or cords of a coated belt or rope. The coated belt or rope includes one or more baseline strands and/or cords exhibiting a first change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope and one or more monitoring strands and/or cords exhibiting a second change in electrical resistance as a function of bending cycles of the belt or rope, greater than the first change in electrical resistance. An electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords is measured via the wear detection unit. Using at least the measured electrical resistance of the one or more monitoring strands and/or cords, a wear condition of the belt or rope is determined.

Fabrication of a malleable lamella for correlative atomic-resolution tomographic analyses
09797923 · 2017-10-24 · ·

A method of forming a sample and performing correlative S/TEM and APM analysis is provided wherein a sample containing a region of interest is cut from a bulk of sample material and formed into an ultra-thin lamella. The lamella is then analyzed with an S/TEM to form an image. The lamella sample and mount may then go through a cleaning process to remove any contamination. The lamella containing the ROI is then embedded within a selected material and is formed into a needle-shaped sample. The needle-shaped sample is then analyzed with the APM and the resulting data is merged and correlated with the S/TEM data.

INSULATION PRODUCTS HAVING NON-AQUEOUS MOISTURIZER

An insulation product comprising fibers consolidated with a binder is disclosed to which a non-aqueous moisturizer has been included. The binder is disposed upon the fibers and the non-aqueous moisturizer is in contact with fibers and/or binder. The insulation product may be an uncured fiber insulation product in which the binder is an uncured binder. The insulation product may be packaged in a suitable material. Accordingly, disclosed is a packaged uncured fiber insulation product.

The device includes a stretching component (10) for elongating by the strand or the ribbon of natural fibers by stretching to give them a required yarn count, an impregnating component (20) for impregnating the fibers with the aqueous dispersion, a shaper for shaping/calibrating the wrung fibers, a dryer (40) for drying the shaped/calibrated fibers, and a conditioner (50) for conditioning the dried fibers to transform them into yarn or ribbon.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DESORBING AND DETECTING AN ANALYTE SORBED ON A SOLID PHASE MICROEXTRACTION DEVICE
20170241877 · 2017-08-24 ·

Disclosed herein is a system for desorbing and detecting an analyte sorbed on a solid phase microextraction (SPME) device. The system includes a desorption chamber sized to accept the SPME device while defining a void volume of less than about 50 μL; a flow injector in fluid connection with the desorption chamber, the desorption chamber and the flow injector being fluidly connected by at least a flow-insulating fluid connector; a solvent source in fluid connection with the flow injector; and a fluid switch that: in a desorption position, allows the solvent to be sprayed from the flow injector while flow-insulating any desorption solution in the desorption chamber, and in an detecting position, turns off the solvent source while maintaining the fluid connection between the flow injector and the desorption chamber, transferring the desorption solution through the flow-insulating fluid connector to the flow injector as a substantially undiluted plug of liquid.

Molding material and resin-adhered reinforcing fiber bundle

A molding material comprising the following components (A) to (D) at the following ratios, in which the component (D) is bonded to a composite comprising the components (A) to (C) and the order in the weight average molecular weight is component (D)>component (B)>component (C); (A) 1 to 75 wt % of a reinforcing fiber bundle; (B) 0.01 to 10 wt % of a first propylene-based resin; (C) 0.01 to 10 wt % of a second propylene-based resin having carboxylate groups bound to the polymer chains thereof; and (D) 5 to 98.98 wt % of a third propylene-based resin. A molding material of this invention provides a long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic resin molding material containing a propylene-based resin as the matrix resin, which allows the reinforcing fibers to be well dispersed into the molded article produced at the time of injection molding and allows the molded article produced to have excellent mechanical properties.
