Acoustic cores with sound-attenuating protuberances
An acoustic core has a plurality of cell walls formed of an additive-manufacturing material and a resonant space defined by the plurality of cell walls. At least some of the resonant cells have a multitude of sound-attenuating protuberances formed of the additive-manufacturing material of the cell walls protruding into the resonant space with a random or semi-random orientation and/or size. The sound-attenuating protuberances may be formed by orienting an additive-manufacturing tool with respect to a toolpath to form a contour of a workpart, in which the toolpath includes a plurality of overlapping toolpath passes configured so as to intentionally introduce an amount of additive-manufacturing material to the workpart that exceeds a domain occupied by the contour. As the amount of additive-manufacturing material intentionally introduced exceeds the domain occupied by the contour, a portion of the additive-manufacturing material may incidentally form the plurality of sound-attenuating protuberances.
BOAS control structure with center support hook
A turbine section for a gas turbine engine includes a turbine blade that extends radially outwardly to a radially outer tip and for rotation about an axis of rotation. A support structure is arranged circumferentially about the axis of rotation and has a plurality of attachment members that extend radially inwardly. A blade outer air seal has a plurality of segments mounted in the support structure. Each segment has a first wall circumferentially spaced from a second wall. The first and second walls are joined to a base portion and an outer wall to define a passage that extends axially along the segment.
Potted stator vane with metal fillet
A vane for use with a stator assembly is disclosed herein. The vane having: an upper mounting portion; a lower mounting portion; an airfoil body extending between the upper mounting portion and the lower mounting portion; a first integrally formed metal fillet located between the upper mounting portion and the airfoil body, the first integrally formed metal fillet defining a first mounting surface located between the upper mounting portion and first integrally formed metal fillet; and a second integrally formed metal fillet located between the lower mounting portion and the airfoil body, the second integrally formed metal fillet defining a second mounting surface located between the lower mounting portion and second integrally formed metal fillet.
Spray tip design and manufacture
A spray tip for a fluid applicator includes a stem configured to be inserted into the fluid applicator. The stem includes a stem pre-orifice portion and an insert receiving portion. The spray tip includes a pre-orifice insert having an inlet and an outlet. The pre-orifice insert is disposed within the insert receiving portion and disposed against a rearward shoulder of the stem.
Nozzle insert rib cap
A nozzle assembly includes a first nozzle cavity, a second nozzle cavity, a rib positioned between the nozzle cavities, a rib cap positioned on the rib, a first cavity insert, and a second cavity insert. The rib cap is wider than the rib, such that the rib cap extends outwardly into those portions of the nozzle cavities immediately adjacent the rib. The first cavity insert and the second cavity insert include a longitudinal surface offset from the rib. The offset surfaces include rib cap-interface surfaces that are joined to the rib cap. A method of modifying the nozzle assembly is achieved by installing a rib cap having a width greater than that of the rib and by installing modified cavity inserts having a surface offset from the rib, and by joining rib cap-interface surfaces of the modified cavity inserts to the rib cap.
Turbine engine containment assembly and method for manufacturing the same
A containment assembly for use in a turbine engine includes a fan case formed from a composite material. The fan case includes a forward end, an aft end, and an opening defined through the fan case between the forward and aft ends. The containment assembly further includes a structural attachment member formed from a metallic material and coupled to the fan case. The structural attachment member is positioned within the opening in the fan case and is configured to receive at least one fastener to couple a component to the structural attachment member.
Steam turbine and methods of assembling the same
A steam turbine is provided. The steam turbine includes a housing, a first steam inlet configured to discharge a first steam flow within the housing, and a second steam inlet configured to provide a second steam flow. A rotor and stator are coupled to the housing and configured to form a first flow path therebetween and in flow communication with the first steam flow. The rotor includes a plurality of blades coupled to the rotor, at least one root of the plurality of blades has a first side, a second side and a passageway coupled in flow communication to the first side and the second side. The passageway is configured to receive the second steam flow within the at least one root. The at least one root includes an angel wing configured to seal the second steam flow from the first flow path.
OIL BAFFLE FOR GAS TURBINE FAN DRIVE GEAR SYSTEM
A method of assembling an epicyclic gear train includes providing a unitary carrier that includes spaced apart walls and circumferentially spaced mounts interconnecting the walls, spaced apart apertures provided between the mounts at an outer circumference of the carrier, gear pockets provided between the walls and mounts extending to the apertures, and a central opening in at least one of the walls, inserting an intermediate gear through the central opening and moving the intermediate gear radially into the gear pocket to extend through the aperture, inserting a baffle into the carrier, and inserting a sun gear through the central opening to intermesh with the intermediate gear.
GAS TURBINE ENGINE BUFFER SYSTEM
A gas turbine engine includes a fan, a compressor section, and a turbine section configured to drive the compressor section and the fan. A buffer system is configured to communicate a buffer supply air to a portion of the gas turbine engine. The buffer system includes a first bleed air supply having a first pressure, a second bleed air supply having a second pressure that is greater than the first pressure, and an ejector that selectively augments the first bleed air supply to prepare the buffer supply air for communication to the portion of the gas turbine engine. A method and a buffer system are also disclosed.
Geared low fan pressure ratio fan exit guide vane stagger angle
A fan exit guide vane assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a plurality of guide vanes having a pressure side and a suction side extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The vanes further include a span extending between a root and tip with a stagger angle defined as an angle between a longitudinal axis parallel to an engine axis of rotation and a line connecting the leading edge and the trailing edge that is less than about 15.
