Flexible and steerable elongate instruments with shape control and support elements
An instrument having a flexible and elongated body includes at least a lumen and a flex member disposed within the lumen. The flex member may be capable of providing steering control to a first portion of the elongate body while providing load bearing support to a second portion of the elongate body. A pull wire may be disposed within the flex member, and at least a distal portion of the pull wire may be coupled to the elongate body and a proximal portion of the pull wire may be operatively coupled to a control unit. The control unit may be coupled to a proximal portion of the elongate body. In addition, a control member may be operatively coupled to the control unit such that a distal portion of the control member may be positioned near a proximal portion of the flex member. The control member may be configured to support the flex member and control the movement or displacement of the flex member. Furthermore, the flex member may be configured to selectively decouple articulation or steering forces of a first portion of the elongate body away from a second portion of the elongate body; thereby, preventing compression of the second portion of the elongate body while maintaining elasticity or flexibility of the second portion of the elongate body.
PRE-CURVED STEERABLE CATHETER WITH PULL-WIRES FOR DEXTEROUS DEFLECTION CONTROL
A pre-curved steerable catheter includes a catheter body (102) having a distal end portion. The distal end portion includes a permanently curved flexible end portion (110). A pull wire (108) is disposed in a pull wire lumen within the catheter body. The pull wire extends from the distal end portion to a proximal end portion of the catheter body wherein the pull wire, when tensioned, provides a change in an angle of the curved flexible end portion of the catheter body.
DEFLECTABLE GUIDE
Described herein are devices and methods for guide catheters having one or more regions of increased flexibility. A flexibility region comprises one tubular segment of the guide catheter with a non-linear seam between two non-concentric layers of material having different durometers. A non-linear seam, such as a zig-zag or sinusoidal configuration, permits controlled compression of lower durometer material between portions of higher durometer material.
Mechanical interlock for catheters
An intravascular device delivery system has an elongated member with a flexible hypotube. The hypotube can be rotationally keyed to a steerable catheter. The flexible hypotube includes one or more cuts to allow bending of the flexible hypotube within a first plane. The steerable catheter is steerable to bend the flexible hypotube within the first plane, and longitudinally movable relative to the flexible hypotube to allow distal movement of the steerable catheter relative to a distal end of the flexible hypotube.
Centering coiled guide
A device and system for providing a centered lumen within a catheter body. A coiled guide lumen (CGL) is composed of a length of wire forming a plurality of coils about the longitudinal axis of the CGL, the CGL including one or more first sections having a first diameter and one or more sections having a second diameter, the second diameter being greater than the first diameter, and a secondary guide lumen extending through the first sections. The CGL may include at least one pull wire extending through the secondary guide lumen and attached at the distal portion of the catheter body. A band may be coupled to an interior of the catheter body distal portion, each of the pull wires being coupled to the annular band. Alternatively, the system may further include a shim coupled to the band, each of the pulls wire being coupled to the shim.
Dual-lever bi-directional handle
An improved bi-directional steerable catheter is provided. The catheter generally comprises a catheter body, tip section and control handle. The catheter further comprises first and second puller wires extending from the control handle, through the catheter body and into the tip section. The control handle has deflection means for each puller wire that include a gear, and a carrier to which the proximal end of a puller wire is anchored. The gear is rotatably coupled to a lever controlled by an operator and the gear engages the carrier such that rotation of the gear by the lever results in longitudinal movement of the carrier, which results in deflection of the tip section.
GROWABLE CONTINUUM INSTRUMENT AND SURGICAL ROBOT
A growable continuum instrument includes a growable tube and one or more serially connected continuum structures. The growable tube includes an inner layer, an outer layer, and a fluid chamber between the inner and outer layers. The growable tube includes a turnable region where the inner and outer layers are connected and turnable. The continuum structure is located in the growable tube. The continuum structure includes a plurality of spacer discs and a plurality of connecting structures. The connecting structure includes one or more flexible structural bones, the two ends of which are respectively fixedly connected with the adjacent spacer discs, and are distributed along the circumferential direction of the spacer discs. The plurality of connecting structures include at least a first and second connecting structures, and the flexible structural bones of the first and second connecting structures are distributed differently along the circumferential direction of the spacer disc.
STEERABLE SHEATH DEFLECTION MECHANISM
A steerable sheath with a deflection mechanism assembly is provided. The assembly includes a tubular shaft that receives first and second longitudinal movement wires at a distal end. A control handle includes a main body configured to receive first and second bevel gears. The first longitudinal movement wire is coupled to the first bevel gear and the second longitudinal movement wire is coupled to the second bevel gear. A rotatable adjustment knob is engageable with the control handle and has an external geared portion matingly engageable with the first and second bevel gears and the rotatable adjustment knob is moveable between a first and second position.
Multi-curvature catheter and medical device for surgery
A catheter and a surgical medical device. The catheter includes at least; a first elastic member positioned at an end portion of the catheter: a second elastic member connected with the first elastic member, the second elastic member being curved with a first radius of curvature to protrude toward a first direction; a first wire connected with a first surface of the first elastic member, and configured to pull the catheter to bend the catheter in the first direction; a second wire connected with a second surface of the first elastic member, which is opposite to the first surface, and configured to pull the catheter to bend the catheter in a second direction; and a tube containing the first elastic member, the second elastic member, the first wire, and the second wire.
INSTRUMENT FOR ENDOSCOPIC APPLICATIONS OR THE LIKE
An instrument for endoscopic applications, including a tubular member having a handling end portion having a flexible portion and actuating devices located at the other end portion, and longitudinal elements for transferring the movement of the actuating devices to the handling end portion resulting in a change of orientation thereof, whereby the handling end portion includes at least two independent flexible portions, whereby the actuating end portion has a corresponding number of actuating devices, and whereby each actuating device is connected by its own set of longitudinal elements to a part of the handling end portion for effecting a change of orientation of one of the flexible portions.
