Neurosurgical apparatus

Neurosurgical apparatus has a guidance device having a guide tube and a neurosurgical instrument for insertion into the guide tube. The inner surface of the guide tube is arranged, for example profiled, to at least partially engage the outer surface of the neurosurgical instrument when inserted therein. The guide tube thus guides the neurosurgical instrument along a predefined path through the guide tube. At least one of the guidance device and the outer surface of the neurosurgical instrument are configured to provide a fluid return path for carrying any fluid displaced from within the guide tube during insertion of the neurosurgical instrument into the guide tube. A seal may also be provided for sealing the fluid return path.

MEDICAL DRAINAGE DEVICE AND USES THEREOF

A medical drainage device for draining air or fluid from a body cavity is described for its use in treating a subject suffering from pneumothorax and/or pleural effusion. The device comprises a tube or a catheter-over-needle for receiving air or fluid from the body cavity and one or more fixation systems for preventing inadvertent dislodging of the needle and/or catheter during the draining procedure. A woven semi-flexible catheter coated with antithrombic agents is used for reducing kinks and clogs. The device may be used for draining air and/or fluid from a plurality of types of body cavities and is particularly suitable for uses in military and/or emergency settings.

Dialysis machine tubing protection

Tubing protectors, systems including tubing protection, and methods for protecting tubing, are disclosed, such as for protecting tubing connected between a patient and a dialysis machine (e.g., peritoneal dialysis machine) during a dialysis treatment. A tubing protector may include a tubing sheath attachable to a patient. The sheath may include a first portion for receiving and protecting a length of tubing extendible in the sheath, such as to minimize collapse, kinking, blockage, or combinations thereof, along the length of the tubing. A second portion may comprise a flexible material and enclose the first portion. The first portion may comprise a resilient material, which allows for movement in the sheath and has a strength to allow for reorientation of the tubing, while withstanding deformation of the tubing along the length. The first portion may be a coil, a plurality of rings, a woven mesh, or a solid tube, or combinations thereof.

Device for protecting and holding in position a probe that is intended to be placed inside the body of a patient in communication with the outside

Device (100) for holding in position a probe for placing the inside of a patient's body in communication with the outside, characterized in that it comprises, arranged along a longitudinal axis (X-X′) of the device: at its distal end, a means (110) of supporting the device on the patient's body and that extends radially, comprising an axial opening (114) for the passage of said probe and comprising a first radial opening (111) communicating with the said axial opening, at its proximal end, a means (120) of guiding said probe comprising a second radial opening (121), a means (130) of spacing said bearing means and said guide means apart longitudinally.

Vacuum assisted skin penetrating appliance with external interface

A system and method for a modular external interface for a skin penetrating appliance is provided. The modular device prevents internalization of bacteria, other infectious agents, or other unwanted materials from entering the access point for a catheter, Steinman pin, Kirschner wires, or other percutaneous instruments. The modular external interface provides for the hermaticity in the vicinity of the skin-appliance interface with fluid exudate or transudate egressing from the vicinity of the skin-appliance interface. The modular external interface forms a hermetic seal with the external neck of an implanted appliance with a locking feature that joins the main body of the modular external interface together around the neck of the appliance. The modular external interface provides mechanical stability to an implanted appliance so as to speed healing around a semi-permanent implanted appliance, as well as connection points for vacuum lines and drive lines for the insertion of medical devices.

Drainage tube introducer

The present invention provides a drainage tube introducer wherein while a drainage tube is fitted over an introducing end portion (42) protruding through a pin hole (32) and is introduced through an incision portion (4) into an infected portion (2) in cooperation with the introducing end portion (42), a stop block (52) is pressed by pushing a sleeve (70) frontward, which bends an operating lever (50) made of an elastic material to release the stop block (52) from a stop hole (38). Accordingly, a pin (40) is moved rearward by an elastic member (60) to withdraw the introducing end portion (42) protruding through the pin hole and to separate the drainage tube introduced into the infected portion (2) from the introducing end portion (42).
