Hybrid Microcatheter Guidewire
20180161549 · 2018-06-14 ·

A microtube guide has a microtube combined with a free-floating and removable core. The microtube is generally hollow with a tube shaft and a distal ring, the tube shaft and the distal ring formed from flexible plastic. The distal ring is conformable to the core and straightenable for insertion into a patient's body, and deploys when the core is withdrawn to form a loop. The core is received by the microtube and is configured to advance into the distal ring to cause a diameter of the distal ring to expand, retract, or straighten. The core comprises a tapered segment that tapers in outer diameter from the diameter of the main core wire to a smaller diameter. A distal end segment of microtubing is frictionally affixed to the tapered segment.

Percutaneous guidewire

A percutaneous guidewire comprising a distal end portion that is pre-formed in a curve that turns through more than 270 degrees. The stiffness of the guidewire may decrease continuously along the length of the curved distal end portion towards the tip of the guidewire and the radius of curvature of the curved distal end portion may also decrease towards the tip of the guidewire.

INTRODUCTION OF A CATHETER IN A VEIN
20180117283 · 2018-05-03 · ·

The invention relates to a method for introducing a catheter in a vein, comprising the following steps:

puncturing the vein,

introducing a guide in the punctured vein,

fixing a catheter on the distal coupler of a connector,

introducing a mandrel in the catheter,

introducing the set formed by the catheter and the mandrel in the vein by having said set slide on the guide,

withdrawing the mandrel and the guide, and

connecting a fluid injection device on the second proximal coupler of the connector.

Catheters and manipulators with articulable ends

The disclosure provides various embodiments of catheters having articulable ends that can be used for various procedures. Embodiments of methods are also provided that can be performed with catheters in accordance with the present disclosure.

Flexible and stretch resistant elongate shaft

A method of manufacturing an elongate shaft for delivery of a medical device may include disposing a polymeric sheath having a lumen extending therethrough over a mandrel; sliding a proximal portion of the polymeric sheath into a lumen of a metallic tubular member; placing a polymeric tubular member over the distal portion of the polymeric sheath and a distal portion of the metallic tubular member; fixedly attaching a proximal coupler to a distal end of a longitudinal support filament; inserting a proximal end of the longitudinal support filament between the polymeric sheath and the polymeric tubular member to position the longitudinal support filament alongside the distal portion of the metallic tubular member and a distal portion of the polymeric sheath; and reflowing the polymeric tubular member to secure the longitudinal support filament relative to the polymeric sheath and the metallic tubular member.

SWIVEL ENHANCED GUIDEWIRE AND RELATED METHODS
20170189652 · 2017-07-06 ·

An elongate flexible steerable guidewire for facilitating placement of a medical implement is described having a proximal section, an intermediate section, and a distal steerable section. In embodiments the distal steerable section comprises a plurality of rotatable swivel members, and an elongate directional tip extending distally from the distalmost swivel member. At least one manipulation wire is secured to the swivel members and extends proximally to the proximal section. Axial movement of manipulation wires rotates the swivel members, thereby curving the guidewire and deflecting the directional tip. An actuator or handle may be incorporated with the guidewire. Methods include placing medical implements in target regions. Exemplary applications include guiding and placement of electrical leads in the spine, and placement of angioplasty devices in the vasculature.

Guidewire having selectively adjustable stiffness and tip curvature
09586029 · 2017-03-07 · ·

A guidewire assembly having selectively adjustable stiffness and tip curvature includes a hollow guidewire having a distal portion terminating at a distal tip, a curvature-modifying element anchored to the distal tip, and a stiffness-modifying element displaceable within the hollow guidewire towards and away from the distal tip so as to vary a stiffness of the distal portion. The stiffness-modifying element and the curvature-modifying element are frictionally linked such that movement of the stiffness-modifying element from a current position over a first range of motion causes corresponding displacement of the curvature-modifying element, thereby modifying a state of curvature of at least part of the distal portion of the guidewire. Movement of the stiffness-modifying element beyond the first range of motion displaces the stiffness-modifying element relative to the curvature-modifying element.

Steerable guidewire and method of use

A steerable guidewire. The steerable guidewire is fabricated includes an outer tube, an inner tube, a hub, and a distal articulating region. The steerable guidewire hub can be removed to permit advancement of catheters over its proximal end followed by re-attachment of the hub to permit deflection of the distal end of the steerable guidewire.

STEERABLE GUIDE WIRE SYSTEMS FOR MEDICAL DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS

A steerable medical device includes a first wire and a second wire. The first wire includes a first portion having a first width and a second portion having a second width. The second width is smaller than the first width. A distal end of the first wire is fixed relative to a distal end the second wire. A proximal end of one or more of the first wire or the second wire is moveable distally or proximally with respect to the other of the first wire or the second wire in order to bend a distal portion of the steerable medical device.
