Steerable intravascular anchor and method of operation
A steerable intravascular anchor comprises an anchor portion that is steerable to a position and then pinned thereto by an external device protruding through the superficial temporal artery. The pin is steered through the skin into the anchor under, for example, by fluoroscopic guidance. The anchor portion, in one embodiment, may have a figure-eight shape, and that comprises two wires, each wire forming a ring. The rings may be located in the same plane or at an angle with respect to one other. Alternatively, the anchor portion comprises a plurality of wires, each wire forming a ring, each ring being connected to at least one other ring. It will be appreciated that other wire shapes may be used, including loops, triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, and the like, and combinations thereof.
Endobronchial Catheter System and Method for Rapid Diagnosis of Lung Disease
A medical device and its method of use includes a catheter, at least two electromagnetic sensing coils located within the distal tip of the catheter, and a multi-element planar ultrasound transducer array located within the distal tip of the catheter and configured to transmit and receive ultrasonic energy. The device also includes an imaging system coupled to the ultrasound transducer and is used for creating an image of tissue in a first target plane that extends orthogonally from the catheter body. The medical device also includes a backscatter evaluation system for use in receiving and evaluating the acoustic spectral characteristics of tissues within a second target area within the first target plane.
Pressure-sensing medical devices and medical device systems
Medical device systems and methods for making and using medical device systems are disclosed. An example medical device system may include a guidewire. A pressure sensor assembly may be disposed within the guidewire. The pressure sensor assembly may include a pressure sensor and a first optical fiber coupled to the pressure sensor. The first optical fiber may have a first outer diameter. A cable may be coupled to the guidewire. The cable may include a second optical fiber. The second optical fiber may have a second outer diameter greater than the first outer diameter.
DEVICES FOR TRANSVASCULAR RETROGRADE ACCESS PLACEMENT
The present invention relates to methods of transvascular retrograde access placement and to devices that facilitate these methods. For purposes of the present invention, transvascular retrograde access placement generally comprises the insertion of a vascular catheter into a central blood vessel through the puncturing of the central blood vessel from the inside of the central blood vessel with a needle or other similarly configured device, or a needle-tipped guidewire of the present invention, and exiting that needle from the patient through the skin rather than the traditional approach of inserting a needle from the outside of the skin surface to the inside of a blood vessel.
Endovascular device with a tissue piercing distal probe and associated methods
Devices, systems and methods for treating diseases and disorders effecting the cardiovascular system of the human body are disclosed. An exemplary device in accordance with this disclosure comprises a shaft, tip member fixed to the shaft, and a probe extending beyond a distal surface of the tip member. In some useful embodiments, the tip member is relatively atraumatic and the probe is shaped so as to be more likely to produce trauma than the tip member.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FOUR DIMENSIONAL SOFT TISSUE NAVIGATION
A surgical instrument navigation system is provided that visually simulates a virtual volumetric scene of a body cavity of a patient from a point of view of a surgical instrument residing in the cavity of the patient. The surgical instrument navigation system includes: a surgical instrument; an imaging device which is operable to capture scan data representative of an internal region of interest within a given patient; a tracking subsystem that employs electro-magnetic sensing to capture in real-time position data indicative of the position of the surgical instrument; a data processor which is operable to render a volumetric, perspective image of the internal region of interest from a point of view of the surgical instrument; and a display which is operable to display the volumetric perspective image of the patient.
DEVICES AND METHODS RELATED TO MEDICAL TUBES
Apparatus and methods for clearing obstructions from a medical tube are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a spool drive system is disclosed for actuating a guide wire within a medical tube. The spool drive system can be a hand held, disposable device having a spool housing with a spool therein for alternately advancing and withdrawing a guide wire through an inlet of the spool housing. A track can be spaced from and extend about a perimeter of the spool to direct the guide wire onto or off of the spool as the spool is rotated. Other embodiments and devices for actuating the guide wire, and methods therefor, also are disclosed.
GUIDEWIRE WITH AN INTEGRATED OPTICAL FIBER
An integrated guidewire includes a wire and an optical fiber. The wire is sized and shaped to move in an anatomical material transportation system of a patient. The optical fiber has proximal and distal ends, the proximal-end is coupled to a device external to the patient, the optical fiber is configured to transfer optical signals between the distal-end and the device, and the wire and the optical fiber are intertwined with respect to one another.
Distal protection devices having controllable wire motion
A distal protection device for use in a body lumen. The device includes a functional element which may be a filler or an occlusive element. The device includes means for controlling the movement and placement of the functional element along a guidewire. Motion of the guidewire can be independent of the motion of the functional element.
