Undulating Balloon Systems and Methods for Nanoparticle-Based Drug Delivery
20230106928 · 2023-04-06 ·

Systems and methods for localized drug delivery via undulating drug coated balloons (DCB), in particular using functionalized nanoparticles as a drug delivery medium in combination with an undulating balloon, are disclosed. In various disclosed embodiments, a nanoparticle matrix is adhered to in an external substrate-surface, such as the balloon surface, and is activated for release once at the treatment site. Activation for release may be enhanced through the use of an undulating balloon system including methodologies for precise control of timing, waveform and extent of undulations.

PESSARY SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PELVIC FLOOR LIGAMENT SUPPORT

A pessary system for providing pelvic floor support for USL and other ligaments. The pessary has an elongated probe with independently inflatable balloons each located substantially the same distance from the insertion end of the probe and which inflate into separate radial sectors. The probe can be inserted into a vaginal cavity and the balloons inflated provide mechanical support to the USLs. Independent inflation of each balloon allows the mechanical USL support provided to be varied on left and right sides to compensate for differences in the degree of degradation and positioning of the USL ligaments on either side.

MEDICAL OCCLUDER DELIVERY SYSTEMS

A delivery system (10, 110) is provided for delivering and deploying an implantable balloon-based occlusion device (20) including an inflatable balloon (22). The delivery system (10, 110) includes a delivery handle (11), which includes a fluid-retaining chamber (41, 141); a plunger, which is slidingly disposed in the fluid-retaining chamber (41, 141); and a proximal rotatable user-control knob (31). A fluid-conveyance lumen catheter (18) defines a catheter fluid-conveyance lumen (19) in fluid communication with the fluid-retaining chamber (41, 141) and the inflatable balloon (22). A catheter lumen shaft (26) is in reversible connection with the balloon-based occlusion device (20), longitudinally slidable with respect to the delivery handle (11). The delivery handle (11) is configured such that rotation of the proximal rotatable user-control knob (31) in a first rotational direction concurrently (a) expels at least some of the fluid from the fluid-retaining chamber (41, 141) into the inflatable balloon (22), via the catheter fluid-conveyance lumen (19), and (b) shortens a length of the balloon-based occlusion device (20) by proximally pulling the catheter lumen shaft (26). Other embodiments are also described.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING PERFLUOROCARBONS TO REMOVE GASES FROM MEDICAL DEVICES

Systems and methods are provided for removing air from a medical device, such as a stent-graft and/or its delivery device. In an exemplary embodiment, the stent-graft or its delivery system or both are exposed to perfluorocarbon, by immersing the stent-graft or flushing the delivery device to remove air from the stent-graft. Optionally, the stent-graft and/or delivery system may be flushed multiple times, e.g., with perfluorocarbon before or after flushing with carbon dioxide, saline, a bio-inert gas, and the like. Thereafter, the stent-graft may be introduced into a patient's body and deployed at a target location, such as the site of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Balloon Catheter Systems for Delivery of Dry Drug Delivery Vesicles to a Vessel in the Body

Devices and methods for balloon delivery of rapamycin and other hydrophobic compounds to the wall of blood vessels. Balloon catheters, such as those used for stent deployment, are modified with the addition of a reservoir of dry micelles. The micelle preparation is reconstituted and the micelles are mobilized when the aqueous solution used to inflate the balloons is injected into the catheter. The micelles are infused into tissue surrounding the balloon when pressurized fluid within the balloon leaks through the wall of the balloon.

APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR ACCESSING AND SEALING BODILY VESSELS AND CAVITIES

Everting balloon systems and methods for using the same are disclosed herein. The systems can be configured to access and dilate body lumen and cavities. For example, the systems can be used to dilate the cervix and access the uterine cavity. The systems can also be used to occlude the cervix. The systems can also be used to occlude the urethra.

Method of performing a sphenopalatine ganglion block procedure

Methods and devices to quickly and accurately locate the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) while performing a sphenopalatine ganglion block procedure that introduces a medication to the SPG. The methods and devices also prevent the medication applied to the SPG from flowing down a patient's throat during the procedure.

Reinforced Balloon Catheter

A balloon catheter is described having a reinforced, co-axial, duel lumen design. In some embodiments, the balloon catheter includes a purging mechanism designed to purge air from the balloon.

System and method for low-profile occlusion balloon catheter

An occlusion catheter system includes a proximal hub having an inflation connection port and an inflation pathway. An inflation catheter member is connected to the proximal hub and has an inflation lumen. A stiffener member defines a longitudinal axis. The proximal end of the stiffener member is connected to the proximal hub. The stiffener member extends through a portion of the inflation lumen. An occlusion balloon has a proximal balloon end and a distal balloon end. A distal catheter member is positioned substantially on the longitudinal axis and is connected to the distal end of the stiffener member. An atraumatic tip is positioned on a distal end of the distal catheter member. The atraumatic tip has a substantially circular profile in a relaxed configuration. A pressure sensor is connected to the occlusion catheter system distally relative to the occlusion balloon and is connected to a processor by electrical wiring.
