CARDIOVASCULAR SUPPORT PUMP HAVING AN IMPELLER WITH A VARIABLE FLOW AREA
The present disclosure is directed generally to mechanical cardiovascular support systems used in the medical field to assist the movement of blood. In particular the present disclosure is directed to an impeller having features that allow improved performance. An annular flow area around a rotating impeller may be variable along the axial length of the impeller. A first radial gap, between a distal region of the impeller and a surrounding tubular housing, may be greater or smaller than a second radial gap, between a proximal region of the impeller and the surrounding tubular housing.

Pump to motor connection system
A connection system for an implantable blood pump including a pump housing having an impeller disposed therein and a motor housing including a motor disposed therein, the motor housing spaced a distance from the pump housing. A flexible outer sheath couples the pump housing to the motor housing, the outer sheath defining a maximum total length between 7 and 10 centimeters. An inner shaft is coaxial with the outer sheath and couples the motor to the impeller.
Heart support device with directional flow assist
A heart support device for circulatory assistance is disclosed. The device comprises a chamber body (10) defining a chamber having an internal volume configured to be filled with blood. The chamber body (10) has a first opening (12) and the chamber is dimensioned such that the first opening (12) and the chamber are fully disposed within a chamber of the human heart. A dynamic volume body (14) is provided and configured to be inflated or deflated to alternately increase or decrease the interior volume of the chamber. A catheter (16) comprising at least one lumen in fluid communication with the dynamic volume body is configured to deliver fluid to the dynamic volume body to inflate the dynamic volume body. A directional flow structure is configured to direct a flow of blood out of the chamber in a direction substantially aligned with a direction in which the catheter (16) extends.

BLOOD-PRESSURE-MEASUREMENT ELEMENT
Apparatus and methods are described including placing, into a subject's body, a blood-pump tube, with an impeller disposed within the blood-pump tube. At least one blood-pressure-measurement element extends to at least an outer surface of the blood-pump tube, such that the distal end of the blood-pressure-measurement element is in direct fluid communication with a bloodstream of the subject outside the blood-pump tube at a location that is proximal to blood-inlet opening(s) defined by the blood-pump tube. Blood is pumped through the blood-pump tube, using the impeller. Pressure of the bloodstream of the subject outside the blood-pump tube is measured by measuring blood pressure at the distal end of the left-ventricular blood-pressure-measurement element. Other applications are also described.
