Systems and methods for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) include at least one electrically stimulating electrode coupled to a pulse generator. Individuals with GERD are treated by implanting a stimulation device within and/or proximate the patient's lower esophageal sphincter, gastric fundus, or other nearby gastrointestinal structures and applying electrical stimulation to the patient's lower esophageal sphincter and/or fundus, in accordance with certain predefined protocols. Electrical stimulation provided by the disclosed systems results in an increase in the length of the high pressure zone of the LES and/or modulation of the receptive relaxation response of the fundus to decrease gastric pressure, creating a longer barrier to the reflux of gastric contents or increasing functional lower esophageal pressure respectively, thereby treating GERD.

PREVENTION OF REFLUX INDUCED LARYNGOSPASM

A device and method for occluding the descending aorta includes inserting a gastroesophageal resuscitative aortic occlusion device into a stomach of a patient through the esophagus. The gastroesophageal resuscitative aortic occlusion device includes a catheter having a body and a first lumen, and a distal end having a first opening fluidly coupled to the first lumen. An inflatable balloon is disposed on the catheter. An interior of the inflatable balloon is fluidly coupled to the first opening. An inflation device is operably connected to the catheter and fluidly coupled to the first lumen. Activation of the inflation device forces fluid into the interior of the inflatable balloon through the first lumen and the first opening. Activating the inflation device to pressurizes the inflatable balloon with a fluid. An external pressure device applies pressure to the abdomen of the patient until blood flow through the descending aorta is reduced or stopped.

Neurostimulation induced medicine devices and related methods of use

Example neurostimulation induced medicine devices and methods of use are described herein. An example endotracheal device can include an elongate tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end, an inflatable cuff arranged between the proximal and distal ends of the elongate tubular member, and an electrode array disposed in proximity to an exterior surface of the inflatable cuff. The inflatable cuff can be configured to expand to contact a subject's tracheal wall. Additionally, the electrode array can include a plurality of flexible electrodes, where a set of the flexible electrodes anatomically align with a region of the subject's tracheal wall for selectively targeting vagus nerve activity.

Electrical Stimulation Device

An electrical stimulation device according to an embodiment includes: an elongated element having working channels; a plurality of electrical stimulators each including a longitudinal member extending along the longitudinal direction of the working channel, and a tip which is installed at the distal end of the longitudinal member and configured to apply electrical stimulation to a subject; and a control unit that independently controls the plurality of electrical stimulators to vary the range of electric stimulation applied to the subject.
