Radiotherapy seeds and applicators
A casing holding one or more brachytherapy seeds for implanting in a patient, which in turn carry atoms of a radioactive element for radiotherapy treatment is filled with a viscous liquid in a manner preventing radiation from the one or more brachytherapy seeds from exiting the casing. The casing may include a metallic or non-metallic elongated tube configured for insertion into tissue or a vial for delivering a seed to a physician for insertion into a needle.
Brachytherapy buttress
A system for loading a surgical buttress with a radioactive material includes a surgical buttress, a radioactive material delivery instrument, and a radioactive material. The surgical buttress includes a body portion defining a first width when in a pre-loaded configuration and a second width when in a loaded configuration. The radioactive material delivery instrument includes an elongate body extending from a handle assembly. The elongate body defines a lumen therethrough and has an open distal end. The radioactive material is disposed within the lumen of the elongate body of the radioactive material delivery instrument.
Method and apparatus for determining the position of a surgical tool relative to a target volume inside an animal body
The invention relates to a method for determining the position of a surgical tool relative to a target volume inside an animal body according to a pre-plan comprising the steps of i) obtaining a plurality of two-dimensional images of said target volume using imaging means, each 2D-image being represented by an image data slice I(x,y,z); ii) reconstructing from said plurality of image data slices I(x,y,z) a three-dimensional image of said target volume using transformation means, said 3D-image being represented by a volumetric image data array V(x,y,z); iii) displaying said three-dimensional image of said target volume to an user using displaying means.
Corrugated stent
A material for brachytherapy is provided comprising a substrate having a longitudinal axis and a latitudinal, wherein the substrate comprises alternating peaks and valleys which are parallel to the longitudinal axis, the alternating peaks and valleys defining latitudinally extending pleats; and a plurality of medicament moieties positioned on the peaks and valleys of the substrate.

Anchored Brachytherapy Device
Aspects herein are directed to an anchorable brachytherapy device configured to be permanently implanted in a tumor bed at the time of operative removal of the tumor. In exemplary aspects, the brachytherapy device may comprise a plurality of hollow tubes that form a spherical or ellipsoid shape. Protrusions or grooves may be formed on an outer surface of the tubes to help anchor the brachytherapy device in the tumor bed. Radioactive seeds or strands may be positioned within the tube channels to provide radiation to the tumor bed.

MULTI-IMAGER COMPATIBLE ROBOT FOR IMAGE-GUIDED INTERVENTIONS AND FULLY AUTOMATED BRACHYTHERAPY SEED
Featured is a robot and a needle delivery apparatus. Such a robot comprises a plurality of actuators coupled to control locating any of number of intervention specific medical devices such as intervention specific needle injectors. Such a robot is usable with image guided interventions using any of a number of types of medical imaging devices or apparatuses including MRI. The end-effector can include an automated low needle delivery apparatus that is configured for dose radiation seed brachytherapy injection. Also featured is an automated seed magazine for delivering seeds to such an needle delivery apparatus adapted for brachytherapy seed injection.
COMPOSITION, DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONFORMATIONAL INTRA-TISSUE BETA BRACHYTHERAPY
It is claimed the invention of a composition and a device to be used in medical therapy as a containment matrix in conformational intra-tissue beta brachytherapy. The composition is made so as to form a gel which can be injected intra-tissue without toxicity in the organism, holding in suspension during injection the particulate of a beta-emitting brachytherapy composition, and forming after injection a solid deposit that immobilizes the radiotherapeutic composition in the injection bolus, to prevent migration of the radioactive product into the surrounding tissues. The composition is injected with an apparatus dedicated to percutaneous intra-tissue injection comprising a 7-degree robotic apparatus, an automatic injection device under pressure, a needles system to provide the therapeutic composition application in the tissue to be treated with minimal trauma. An advanced software system is also included that allows interfacing between diagnostic imaging data, robotic arm movement scheduling, and composition dose distribution, in order to optimize the distribution of the radiotherapeutic doses of the composition into the tissue to be treated, according to a targeted individual therapeutic strategy. Additionally a method for using the invention for the application in human or animal medicine is claimed.
Radiotherapy Applicator
An applicator for delivery of radiotherapy seeds to a tumor of a patient through an elongate needle (104). The elongate needle comprises a needle handle (204) and a needle tube having a given length for insertion into the patient. The applicator comprises an elongate applicator tube (106) designed to pass through the elongate needle, wherein the elongate applicator tube defines an internal channel which receives one or more radiotherapy seeds (110), an applicator handle (210) configured to be attached to the needle handle (204); and a stylet (108) within the elongate applicator tube. The elongate applicator tube is longer than the elongate needle.
