A system for multi-stage crimping of a contact to a wire includes a first crimping die having a first portion of a selected shape defined therein, and a second crimping die having a complementary second portion of the selected shape defined therein. The system also includes the first and second crimping dies being operable to be displaced towards each other and along a first axis during a compression stroke. The first and second crimping dies are also operable to be displaced along a second axis during a closing stroke subsequent to the compression stroke, where the second axis is generally perpendicular to the first axis. In addition, the system includes the first and second crimping dies cooperating to crimp the contact into the selected shape to the wire upon completion of the closing stroke.

Hydraulically actuatable crimping device, method for carrying out a crimping operation, method for producing an electroconductive compression joint, electroconductively crimped compression sleeve, method for clamping a workpiece and hydraulic device

A handheld hydraulically actuatable crimping device includes a hydraulic piston that can be displaced in a cylinder against the force of a spring. The piston is connected to a crimping part by a piston rod in order to carry out a crimping operation. The piston includes first and second partial pistons with first and second partial application faces which can be acted upon with hydraulic medium that has the same hydraulic pressure. Both partial pistons are respectively connected to a first and a second crimping part. The second crimping part can at a greater traveling distance only be acted upon with the second partial piston. The second crimping part can be acted upon with both partial pistons over a first partial traveling distance that is defined by the displacement of the first partial piston from its initial position up to the point, at which it reaches a stop. The first crimping part is axially covered in its entirety by the second crimping part.

Crimping Tool

The invention relates to pressing or crimping pliers (1). According to the invention a spring device (35) (which is e.g. embodied as U-shaped leaf spring (36)) is used in the crimping pliers. In an equilibrium position (48) the leaf spring (36) is trapped between stops (49, 50). If the pressing or crimping pliers (1) are moved from the equilibrium position (48) in closing direction the leaf spring (36) is biased by a follower (54) such that the leaf spring (36) generates an opening force. In reversed direction the opening movement of the pressing or crimping pliers (1) from the equilibrium position (48) leads to a bias of the leaf spring (36) by a follower (55) such that the leaf spring is able to generate a closing force. According to the invention it is possible to provide that the pressing or crimping pliers (1) automatically and elastically open when reaching the closed position. Furthermore, a workpiece inserted into the pressing or crimping pliers (1) is clamped by a closing force and secured in this way.
