The invention relates to a system for preparing a beverage from a capsule using a fluid supplied under pressure into the capsule comprising a beverage preparation device having an enclosing member with an annular element having a free contact end and a capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a beverage. The capsule comprises a sealing member having the shape of a step. i.e. a sudden increase of the diameter of a side wall of the capsule. The sealing member comprises a floor portion extending over an engagement distance and a side wall portion extending in a direction away from the floor portion. The engagement distance of the floor portion is such that the floor portion engages the free contact end of the annular element over its breadth if the capsule is positioned in the enclosing member of the beverage preparation device and the enclosing member is moved relative towards a capsule holder of the beverage preparation device. The floor portion is arranged to be plastically drawn over the free contact end of the annular element if the enclosing member of the beverage preparation device is closed by means of the capsule holder of the beverage preparation device. The invention also relates to a capsule for use in such a system.

CAPSULE, A SYSTEM FOR PREPARING A POTABLE BEVERAGE FROM SUCH A CAPSULE AND USE OF SUCH A CAPSULE IN A BEVERAGE PREPARATION DEVICE

A capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a beverage has an aluminum capsule body and a cover sheet hermetically closing off the capsule. The capsule body has a flange with a deformable sealing ring portion with an inner wall portion extending from and contiguous with an inner base portion of the flange, an outer wall portion extending from and contiguous with an outer base portion of the flange and a bridge portion interconnecting the inner wall portion and the outer wall portion. The bridge portion is located axially spaced from the base portions of the flange. In radial cross-sectional view, a top of the bridge portion axially most remote from the base portions of the flange is flat or has a center plane curved with a radius of curvature larger than two times a wall thickness of the top of the bridge portion.

A beverage maker includes a body and a cover movably attached to the body. The body includes therein (among other components), a hot liquid generator (HLG) having a tank, an inlet for receiving liquid into the tank and an outlet, at least one heater in thermal communication with the liquid in the HLG tank, and a discharge port in fluid communication with the outlet of the HLG for discharge of the liquid. The cover is movably attached to the body between a closed position and an open position. At least one valve permits the discharge of the liquid via the discharge port in a closed position of the cover. The at least one valve is mechanically actuated by the cover in the open position of the cover to substantially prevent the discharge of the liquid via the discharge port.

Beverage-making apparatus

A beverage-making apparatus includes a water supply heater configured to heat water; an ingredient supplier connected to the water supply heater through a water supply channel; a container connected to the ingredient supplier through a first channel; a first valve configured to regulate a flow through the first channel; and a beverage extractor connected to the first channel at a location between the ingredient supplier and the first valve.

Machine and method for preparing a beverage

An beverage-preparation apparatus includes a capsule receptacle (204, 300, 400, 416, 500) receiving a beverage capsule (306, 418) containing a quantity of a beverage ingredient, and an injection head (202) for injecting fluid into said beverage capsule (306, 418) to produce a beverage, said injection head (202) being mobile between a first, inactive position and a second, active position, and further having a biasing device (226, 304) selectively preventing the injection head (202) from remaining in the first, inactive position, and a capsule-detecting means (308, 402, 404, 422, 508) activating the biasing device (226, 304) when the presence of a beverage capsule (306, 418) within said capsule receptacle (204, 300, 400, 416, 500) is detected.
