This disclosure describes embodiments of an anchor with a body configured to expand radially outwardly along its entire length. The anchor includes, but is not limited to, a cylindrical body having a longitudinal axis and an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface defining a central bore, the cylindrical body having a slot exposing the central bore, the slot having a helical path around the longitudinal axis, wherein the slot is configured to expand so that the cylindrical body changes from a first state to a second state in response to pressure on the inner surface, and wherein an outer diameter of cylindrical body in the second state is larger than the outer diameter of the cylindrical body in the first state.

Suture anchor

A knotless suture anchor system is disclosed for improved anchoring in tissue. The knotless suture anchor system includes an anchor body having an exterior surface, a proximal end, a distal end, a longitudinal axis extending between the proximal and distal ends, an interior longitudinal passageway extending at least partway from the proximal end toward the distal end, a proximal opening communicating with the longitudinal passageway nearer the proximal end, and a distal opening communicating with the longitudinal passageway nearer the distal end. The knotless suture anchor system also includes an interference member insertable distally into the longitudinal passageway to secure a portion of a suture within the longitudinal passageway by compressing the portion of the suture between the interference member and the anchor body, and a frangible connection that joins a proximal member to the anchor body.

A method for securing a suture to bone includes positioning an anchor with a suture connected thereto within a hole in the bone using an insertion apparatus. The insertion apparatus includes a handle, a shaft mounted to the handle, and a retractable sheath movably mounted to the handle and disposed coaxially over the shaft. The retractable sheath is positioned within a conduit that is attached to the handle, and at least a portion of the anchor is positioned within the retractable sheath during positioning of the anchor within the hole. The insertion apparatus is controlled to withdraw the retractable sheath from the anchor. The anchor is configured to deploy within the hole in the bone and secure the suture to the bone.

A system is provided for the approximation of two bones. The system may include an implant having a first anchor, a flexible segment, and a second anchor. The first anchor may be configured for insertion into a first bone. The second anchor may be configured to engage with a second bone. The flexible segment may extend between the first and second anchors. The system may include a delivery device which may include a removable driver configured to facilitate insertion of the first anchor into the first bone, and a first handle configured to engage the removeable driver. The delivery device may include a second handle configured to increase tension on the flexible segment. The delivery device may include a third handle configured to engage the second anchor with the second bone and to attach the flexible segment to the second anchor.

Systems and methods for anchoring an implant

The invention relates in some aspects to a device for use in anchoring an implant, including anchors, sutures, implants, clips, tools, lassos, and methods of anchoring among other methods. Anchors as disclosed herein could be utilized to secure a coaptation assistance device, an annuloplasty ring, an artificial valve, cardiac patch, sensor, pacemaker, or other implants. The implant could be a mitral valve ring or artificial mitral valve in some embodiments.
