A method for closing an opening in biological tissue of intra-abdominal structures, which includes the steps of (i) providing a tissue closure system that includes a suture guide sub-system for engaging tissue disposed proximate the tissue opening and a suture passer sub-system that slideably engages the suture guide sub-system, (ii) inserting the suture guide sub-system into and through a tissue opening, (iii) inserting the suture passer sub-system with a section of suture engaged thereto into and through a first tissue region, (iv) rotating the suture guide sub-system, (v) inserting the suture passer sub-system with another section of suture engaged thereto into and through a second tissue region, (vi) withdrawing suture guide sub-system, (vii) releasing both sections of the suture captured by the suture guide sub-system, and (viii) drawing both sections of the suture together, wherein the first and second tissue regions are drawn together and the tissue opening is closed.

Apparatus and method for septal punch

In some embodiments, a method includes a shaft having a side catheter guide attached thereto via a guide coupler into an inferior vena cava and a superior vena cava such that the guide coupler is disposed in a right atrium, and applying a distal force to a proximal portion of the side catheter guide such that a distal end of the side catheter guide deflects laterally about the guide coupler towards a septum. The method further includes extending a side catheter that is disposed within the side catheter guide distally from the side catheter guide towards and into contact with the septum. The method further includes, with the side catheter in contact with the septum, extending a septum penetrator that is slidably disposed within the side catheter distally from the side catheter such that the septum penetrator pierces the septum.

A surgical tool according to one or more embodiment may include: an end effector; an elongate element that drives the end effector; a hollow shaft that includes a proximal end portion and a distal end portion which is coupled to the end effector; a driving member which the elongate element led via the shaft is wound on; a guide pulley that is disposed between the proximal end portion of the shaft and the driving member and guides the elongate element; and a tension pulley that is disposed between the proximal end portion of the shaft and the guide pulley and biases the elongate element.

SIDE-LOOKING MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY

A surgical assembly may comprise an actuator system including a plurality of wedge-shaped actuator assemblies arranged radially around a longitudinal axis. The surgical assembly may also comprise a first instrument assembly including a first elongate instrument shaft and a first wedge-shaped transmission mechanism coupled at a proximal end of the first elongate instrument shaft. The first wedge-shaped transmission mechanism is configured to engage a first wedge-shaped actuator assembly of the plurality of wedge-shaped actuator assemblies. The first wedge-shaped actuator assembly is movable linearly, relative to the other of the plurality of wedge-shaped actuator assemblies of the plurality of wedge-shaped actuator assemblies, along a path parallel to the longitudinal axis to linearly translate the first instrument assembly.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY SYSTEM

A minimally invasive surgery system including a robot, a cannula assembly and a computer system. The robot has at least one movable robot arm and the cannula assembly is detachably mounted to the robot arm. The cannula assembly includes a cannula and a pattern generating member. The cannula has a distal end and a proximal end with a flange portion and an elongate cannula shaft portion extending from the proximal end to the distal end and an access port through the elongate cannula shaft portion. The pattern generating member includes a pattern light source and a projector temporarily or permanently fixed to the cannula shaft portion. The pattern light source is operatively connected to the projector for projecting a light pattern. The computer system is configured for in real time receiving image data representing light pattern reflections from a surgical surface and for determining a real-time spatial position of the cannula assembly relative to the surgical surface.

INSUFFLATION STABILIZATION SYSTEM

Pressure conditioning systems for supplying insufflation gas to an open-ended body conduit such as a rectal cavity during a transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) procedure can reduce billowing of walls of the body conduit. A pressure conditioning system can include a pressure storage component, an accumulator, and a flow restrictor. The pressure storage component can include a variable volume reservoir that is biased to a relatively low volume state. The flow restrictor can include insufflation tubing with a restrictor plate having a relatively low diameter orifice. The pressure storage component, accumulator, and flow restrictor can be fluidly connected in various orders in series or as side branches from a gas flow conduit. Despite a pulsed or otherwise discontinuous insufflation gas flow and leakage and absorption from the body conduit, the pressure conditioning system can maintain a constant pressure within the body conduit.

The present application discloses a device and methods for performing a vascular closure procedure that comprises inserting a sheath into a tissue tract defined in a body part and injecting a procoagulant material into the tissue tract adjacent a vascular access site via the sheath.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGICAL SYSTEM

A surgical system comprises a manipulator arm and a surgical instrument. The surgical instrument includes: a transmission mechanism including a plurality of interface members; and an elongate body extending from the transmission mechanism. The surgical system further includes an instrument mounting structure mounted to the manipulator arm. The transmission mechanism of the surgical instrument is removably couplable to the instrument mounting structure. The instrument mounting structure includes a plurality of actuator members and a passage defined within the instrument mounting structure.
