External fixator
The invention relates to an external fixator device and the method of its use in treating bone fractures and in orthopedic interventions, such as corrective osteotomies.
EXTERNAL BONE FIXATION SYSTEMS
The present application provides external bone and tissue fixation systems and related methods. The fixation systems may include an elongate beam element defining an axis with an axially extending threaded track portion. The systems may also include at least one drivable fixation clamp assembly comprising a housing with a central bore, a driving housing rotatably coupled to the housing, a threaded driving member, and a clamp assembly rotatably coupled to the housing configured to clamp to at least one fixation member. The elongate beam element may extend axially through central bore of the housing. The driving member may be movable with respect to the central bore via rotation of the driving housing between engaged and disengaged states with the threaded track portion. Rotation of the driving member in the engaged state may axially translate the clamp assembly along the beam element.
BONE FIXATOR APPARATUS
A bone fixator apparatus has rings and turnbuckles connected to opposite sections of each ring via opposed right and left handed screws mounted to the rings so that rotation of each turnbuckle modifies a distance between corresponding sections of the rings. On each ring, positioning levers are connected to each screw and mounted on respective sections of the ring. Each positioning lever is movable between an unlocked state allowing the screw to move in relation to the ring and a locked state preventing a movement of the screw. Tensioning levers are mounted on opposite ends of each ring. Each tensioning lever is actionable between an unlocked state allowing mounting one end of a wire to the ring and a locked state causing the end of the wire to be securely attached to the ring. Any tension applied to the wire is maintained by action of the tensioning levers.
TRANSOSSEOUS RIBBON WIRE DEVICES AND A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR USING THE DEVICES
Devices for use in performing external fixation orthopedic surgery are provided. More particularly, a specialized transosseous wire having a rectangular cross-section is provided. The specialized wire is installed using a reciprocating motion. Thereafter, the specialized transosseous wires are affixed to a frame. Methods of using the transosseous wire are also disclosed.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR BONE REPAIR PREPARATION
Apparatus and methods for preparing a fractured bone for repair. Preparing the bone may include fracture reduction. Preparing the bone may include holding a fracture in reduction. Preparing the bone may include identifying locations for obtaining access to an interior region of the bone. The apparatus may include structures outside the bone that interact with fragments of the bone. The structures may participate in the reduction. The structures may participate in holding the reduction. The structures may participate in identifying the locations.
External fixation
External fixation systems, and methods for immobilizing joints or fractured bones. An external fixation system may include one or more clamp assemblies connected to one or more rod assemblies at polyaxial joints. Each rod assembly may be length adjustable, and may include a one-way locking mechanism to provisionally lock the length of the rod assembly, and additional locking mechanisms to permanently lock the length of the rod assembly. The system may be deployed pre-assembled as a unit to immobilize a joint or fracture. Another external fixation system further includes a spanning member extending transverse to the rod assemblies. Two or more external fixation systems may be deployed in a stacked configuration on one set of bone pins to immobilize two joints and/or fractures. The systems may be provided in kits including guiding instrumentation, bone pins and pin clamping assemblies for connecting the bone pins to the external fixation systems.
Elongated pin for application of an external fixator
Monocortical pin (1) for an external fixator for temporary and/or permanent fixing applications for treating bone fractures and connecting two or more bone fragments together, comprising an elongated cylindrical stem (2) which extends along a longitudinal axis (X) and a conical portion (3) with a tip having an external thread for inserting the pin (1) inside a bone; where said elongated cylindrical stem (2) has a flattened surface (2a) which lies along a reference plane (A) parallel to the longitudinal axis (X) and said conical portion (3) with the tip has an overall length, measured along the longitudinal axis, equal to the diameter (d) of the stem (2) +20% of said diameter (d); said monocortical pin (1) is characterized in that the conical portion (3) comprises a tip (31) which has a centring zone (33) which extends longitudinally over a length equal to 6-8% of the diameter (d) of the stem (2), and a threaded portion (32); moreover the conical portion (3) comprises two base cones (3a and 3b) having two different angles of conicity, a first base cone (3a) in a distal position with respect to the elongated cylindrical stem (2) of the monocortical pin and a second base cone (3b) in a proximal position with respect to the elongated cylindrical stem (2) of the monocortical pin; said first base cone (3a) having an angle of conicity of 13; said second base cone (3b) having an angle of conicity of 26.
FIXATION DEVICE
A fixation device comprises a first body having a threaded end, a longitudinal axis, and a bore perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A second body is received in the bore. The second body has an exterior thread and an interior passage for receiving a pin or wire. The second body has a wire locking device for retaining the pin or wire. An advance nut engages the exterior thread. The advance nut abuts the first body for moving the wire locking device away from the first body when the advance nut is turned, for tensioning the pin or wire.
