A system including a bone punch tool and a needle guide. The bone punch tool can include a support arm having a support arm proximal portion and a support arm distal portion, a pivot arm having a pivot arm proximal portion and a pivot arm distal portion, and an arcuate punch configured to punch through bone. The pivot arm distal portion can be pivotably coupled to the support arm distal portion, such that the pivot arm proximal portion is configured to be moved away from the support arm proximal portion to extend the arcuate punch into a punch position to punch an arcuate hole through bone. The needle guide can be configured to guide a needle through the arcuate hole.

STERNOTOMY SPACING DEVICE

A device and a method for keeping the sternal edges apart for the procedure of delayed sternal closure is disclosed in which one or more, specifically shaped struts or stents are insinuated horizontally between the edges of the open sternum, keeping the two edges of the divided sternum apart by a distance determined by the length of the middle bar of the device. The disclosed device has lateral ends which are manually engaged to the medial ends of the sternal edges, by an insinuating movement while the said lateral ends of the apparatus hold onto the medial portion of the sternal edges by a passive, cupping grip which can be further secured by anchoring sutures. The whole of the disclosed device is in the form of a single piece, without any moving parts, joints, screws or nuts & bolts. The present device provides a method and an instrument which occupies minimum inter-sternal space and provides maximum sub-sternal space for accommodating cardiac oedema.

LOAD DISTRIBUTOR FOR A STERNUM CLOSURE DEVICE AND TOOL FOR CUTTING THE LOAD DISTRIBUTOR

A load distributor for a sternum closure device comprises a wire receiving section configured to be attached to a wire of the sternum closure device, and a load distributing section. A tool for cutting the load distributor comprises a pair of jaws movable between a load distributor receiving position and a cutting position, wherein at least one of the jaws has substantially V-shaped cutting edges tapered towards the other jaw in an angle to the longitudinal extension of the tool.

Sternum Fixation Devices and Methods

A sternum fixation device includes a plate having a first end and a second end, a right lateral edge and a left lateral edge, an inner side configured for placement against the sternum, and an outer side. A first lobe includes a band socket defined as a blind recess in the outer side of the plate. The band socket includes a right lateral stop and a left lateral stop opposite the right lateral stop. A right lateral channel is defined in the first lobe from the right lateral edge to the band socket, the right lateral channel defined above a right side floor in the socket. A left lateral channel opposite the right lateral channel is defined in the first lobe from the left lateral edge to the band socket, the left lateral channel defined above a left floor in the socket.

Integrated cutting guide with cardioprotective butterfly for repeat sternotomy and for cast cutting

A cardioprotective patch with an integrated cutting guide includes a membrane having a top edge, a bottom edge distal from the top edge, a right side edge connecting the top edge and the bottom edge; and a left side edge, distal from the right side edge and connecting the top edge and the bottom edge. A fold extends parallel to the top edge about half way between the top edge and the bottom edge. The crease is slit from the right side edge, forming a right slit. An elongate frame is fixedly connected to the membrane. The frame includes a tubular member and a plurality of arms extending outwardly from the tubular member and connected to the membrane.

System and method to fuse bone

An implant is provided that is operable to be disposed between and fuse two sections of a bone. The implant includes an inner layer and an outer layer. The outer layer at least partially surrounds the inner layer and is operable to abut against the two sections of the bone. The outer layer is porous and/or fibrous and is operable to receive at least one cellular growth factor.

Split sternum prosthesis

The present disclosure relates to an implantable split sternum prosthesis to facilitate closure of the chest cavity and relieve pain after sternotomy operations. The split sternum prosthesis which after a surgical procedure is placed along the inline incision made in the sternum bone will also facilitate access to the chest cavity for patients in need of repeated surgical operations inside the chest cavity. The split sternum prosthesis comprises two elongated bone attachment plates, a first bone attachment plate and a second bone attachment plate. The first and he second bone attachment plates each have a bone attachment surface and a coupling surface. The first and second bone attachment plates are adapted be coupled together in a very close fit along their coupling surfaces.

STERNUM FIXATION DEVICE AND METHOD

An apparatus and technique for infernally securing a plurality of bone segments together. The device incorporates a plate-like structure stabilizing the fracture and integrated fasteners to attach straps circumscribing the bone segments.

CERCLAGE SYSTEM AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

A cerclage system used to affix a bone includes a tension plate, a cable lock, and a cerclage cable configured to encircle the bone. The tension plate, which is engageable with the cerclage cable, is moveable between a natural shape and an insertion shape where the tension plate stores energy. The cable lock locks the cerclage cable about the bone in engagement with the tension plate. The tension plate is configured for positioning atop the bone while residing in the insertion shape. The tension plate, through an engagement thereof with the cerclage cable and upon attempted movement thereof from the insertion shape toward the natural shape, delivers the energy stored therein to the cerclage cable thereby tensioning the cerclage cable such that the cerclage system continuously compresses the bone.

Surgical instrument for tightening a bone fixation member around bone

Disclosed is a surgical instrument for tightening a bone fixation member around bone. The instrument comprises a body with a gripping portion extending from the body and configured to be grasped by a hand, a clamp for clamping a bone fixation member and a clamp carrier connected to and movably guided relative to the body. The clamp is connected to and movably guided relative to the clamp carrier. The instrument further comprises an actuator connected to and movably guided relative to the body, and configured to be operated by a hand, wherein the actuator is configured to move the clamp carrier via the clamp.
