SEAL FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
An apparatus includes a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, a coupling member, and a seal feature. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body and includes a distal end. The coupling member is disposed at the distal end of the shaft assembly to movably couple the end effector to the shaft assembly. The seal feature is engaged with the coupling member and includes a seal body and a plurality of protrusions. The plurality or protrusions extend from the seal body. Each protrusion of the plurality of protrusions is configured to slidably receive a respective elongate member associated with the end effector therethrough.
ENERGY-BASED SURGICAL INSTRUMENT FOR GRASPING, TREATING, AND/OR DIVIDING TISSUE
A surgical instrument includes a housing and a trigger assembly. The trigger assembly includes a trigger including a drive portion and a manipulation portion, a rocker, a linkage, and a slider. The trigger is pivotably coupled to the housing such that the drive and manipulation portions are moved in different directions in response to actuation of the trigger. The drive portion of the trigger is pivotably coupled to the rocker. The linkage is pivotably coupled to the rocker and the housing at opposing end portions thereof. The slider is pivotably coupled to the rocker and operably coupled to the deployable component. Actuation of the manipulation portion of the trigger moves the drive portion of the trigger distally to thereby urge the rocker distally, pivot the linkage about the second end portion thereof, and slide the slider distally to deploy the deployable component distally.
Device with movable buttons or switches and tactile identifier
The present teachings provide for a device with a membrane and an underlying switch, an underlying switch actuator, or both that has a unique tactile pattern that is felt through the membrane when the membrane is aligned with the switch, switch actuator, or both, corresponding to the electrical state of the device. The membrane, the switch, the switch actuator or a combination thereof can be repositioned from a first position to a second position so that a different tactile feel is present through the membrane corresponding to a second electrical state.
Flexible neutral electrode
An energy module is disclosed. The energy module includes a control circuit and a two wire interface coupled to the control circuit. The two wire interface is configured as a power source and as a communication interface between the energy module and a neutral electrode.
TREATMENT INSTRUMENT
A treatment instrument that includes a first grasping member having a first grasping surface and a second grasping member having a second grasping surface. The treatment instrument includes a cover that covers at least a part of a region of at least one of the first and second grasping members other than the first and second grasping surfaces, and a pair of electrodes that are arranged on at least one of the first and second grasping surfaces to function as a bipolar electrode. An opening is provided in the cove, and a monopolar electrode arranged to overlap with the opening and is exposed to an outside of the treatment instrument through the opening.
RESISTING TORQUE IN ARTICULATING SURGICAL TOOLS
Various exemplary systems, devices, and methods are provided for resisting torque in articulating surgical tools. In general, a surgical tool can include an elongate shaft having at a distal end thereof an end effector configured to engage tissue. The end effector can be configured to articulate relative to the elongate shaft. The surgical tool can include a cutting element configured to translate longitudinally along the end effector to cut the engaged tissue. When the end effector is articulated, the longitudinal translation of the cutting element along the end effector exerts a torque force on the end effector that urges the end effector away from its current angled orientation. The surgical tool can be configured to have a corrective tension or force applied thereto that counteracts the torque force.
Surgical instrument configured to determine firing path
A surgical instrument for treating the stomach tissue of a patient is disclosed. The surgical instrument comprises a handle comprising a display, a shaft extending from the handle, and an end effector extending from said shaft. The surgical system comprises a tissue treatment system configured to treat the stomach tissue along a path, an imaging system configured to capture a tissue image of the stomach tissue, and a controller configured to determine an edge of the stomach tissue, generate an image representing at least a portion of the edge of the stomach tissue, and display the image along with at least a portion of the tissue image on the display.
Combination ultrasonic and electrosurgical instrument with adjustable energy modalities and method for limiting blade temperature
An ultrasonic surgical instrument and method of limiting an ultrasonic blade temperature includes adjusting at least one power parameter of the ultrasonic energy in response to reaching a predetermined frequency parameter change threshold in the ultrasonic blade limiting the temperature of the ultrasonic blade to an upper temperature limit. The ultrasonic surgical instrument further includes an end effector having an ultrasonic blade, a jaw, and a controller. The jaw is movably positioned relative to the ultrasonic blade and configured to move between an open position and a closed position. The controller operatively connects to the ultrasonic blade and is configured to measure an ultrasonic frequency of the ultrasonic blade. The controller has a memory including a plurality of predetermined data correlations that correlate changes in measured ultrasonic frequency of the ultrasonic blade to a blade temperature of the ultrasonic blade.
Modular surgical energy system with module positional awareness sensing with time counter
A modular surgical system for use in a surgical procedure is disclosed. The modular surgical system includes a control module, a first surgical module arrangeable in a stack configuration with the control module, and a second surgical module arrangeable in a stack configuration with the control module and the first surgical module. The first surgical module includes a first counter module, a first stop-counter module configured to receive a sequence signal that causes the first stop-counter module to disable the first counter module from incrementing at a first final count, and a first delay module. The second surgical module includes a second counter module and a second stop-counter module configured to receive the sequence signal from the first surgical module after a predetermined delay. The sequence signal causes the second stop-counter module to disable the second counter module from incrementing at a second final count.
MEDICAL MANIPULATOR AND TREATMENT METHOD
A medical manipulator includes: an elongated portion; an end effector provided to a distal end of the elongated portion and having a pair of jaws that open and close; and a manipulating portion provided to a proximal end of the elongated portion. One of the pair of jaws has a first member and a second member, the second member being rotatably attached to the first member. The other of the pair of jaws has a third member rotatably attached to the first member and the second member, a front portion of the third member being located to face the second member. The manipulating portion has a switching portion configured to switch between a first mode in which rotation of the second member with respect to the first member is restricted and a second mode in which rotation of the second member with respect to the first member is not restricted.
