A two-part accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) device for implantation in a capsular bag of a patient's eye. The IOL device includes a primary lens assembly and a power changing lens. The primary lens assembly includes a fixed lens and a peripherally disposed centration member. The centration member has a circumferential distal edge and a first coupling surface adjacent the circumferential distal edge. The power changing lens has an enclosed, fluid- or gel-filled lens cavity and haptic system disposed peripherally of the lens cavity. The haptic system has a peripheral engaging edge configured to contact the capsular bag and a second coupling surface. The first and second coupling surfaces are in sliding contact with one another to permit movement of the power changing lens relative to the primary lens assembly and also to maintain a spaced relationship between the fixed lens and the lens cavity during radial compression of the power changing lens.

The peripheral portion is a prismatic lens that redirects oblique incident light on the peripheral portion forward of the nasal retina in the eye and onto the ciliary body/pars plana region.

An internal space is defined by the posterior wall and the annular wall. The internal space is sized to receive a lens body of the intraocular lens. The holder also includes a locking feature configured to secure the intraocular lens. At least a portion of the locking feature is anterior to the intraocular lens when positioned in the holder.

An intraocular lens assembly is used in cataract surgery. An intraocular lens assembly (100) has a haptic (102) having a ring (106), a plurality of arcuate arms (108), and a plurality of haptic arm bases (110). Each of the arms (108) is connected with the ring (106) by a respective base (110). An optic (104) has at least two pairs of opposed holes (112). The holes (112) are positioned in the close proximity with an outer peripheral edge of the optic (104). The optic (104) is removably positionable in the haptic (102) by a snap fit lock forming the intraocular lens assembly. The intraocular lens assembly (100) has a first unlocked position wherein haptic (102) is dissembled from the optic (104), and a second locked position wherein the optic (104) is snap fitted in the haptic (102).

Intraocular implants and methods of forming intraocular implants are described herein. The intraocular implant can include a powered optic and a lens holder. The optic can be mechanically coupled to an inner periphery of the lens holder to form the intraocular implant. A portion of the lens holder can include a mask disposed about the optic to increase depth of focus in a human patient.

Exchangeable optics and therapeutics

An exchangeable optics system includes an intraocular base that can be fixed within an eye. The intraocular base includes one or more couplers and a supporting structure. The one or more couplers releasably couple to an exchangeable optic or therapeutic and can include magnetic material. The supporting structure can include haptics and a main structure that physically supports the exchangeable optic or the therapeutic that is coupled via the one or more couplers. In some cases, the intraocular base can include a fixed lens within or on the main structure. The exchangeable optic can include corresponding one or more couplers, which may be formed of magnetic material. The therapeutic can be in the form of a magnetic particle.

Devices for reconstruction of a lens capsule after cataract surgery

Provided herein are devices used to reconstruct a natural lens capsule after a cataract surgery. The device has a ring-shaped rigid component, a ring-shaped flexible component and a groove disposed on an inner surface of the rigid component. The rigid component has a distal end attached to the ring-shaped flexible component and a proximal end that lies against Wieger's ligament when fitted within the natural lens capsule. The ring-shaped flexible component has a proximal end that is attached to the distal end of the rigid component and a distal end that contacts an anterior surface of the natural lens capsule when fitted therein. The groove is disposed to receive optics of an intraocular lens and/or the ledge is disposed to secure haptics thereof.

The toroid portion may be separate from an IOL optic and may include a receiving feature for the IOL optic. The toroid portion may be configured for intraoperative fluid-filling for snug fitting at the equator of the capsular bag, in order to immobilize the IOL optic.
