System with adapter for closed transfer of fluids

A system includes a vial access device including a vial access housing having a wall defining an elongate opening between an opening proximal end and an opening distal end, the vial access housing including a spike and a vial connection element attachable to a first vial defining a first vial size to secure the vial access device to the first vial, and an adapter movable within the elongate opening of the vial access housing. The adapter is transitionable between a first position where the adapter is adjacent the opening distal end of the vial access housing and the adapter is attachable to a second vial defining a second vial size and a second position where the adapter is adjacent the opening proximal end of the vial access housing and the vial connection element of the vial access device is attachable to the first vial.

FLUID TRANSFER DEVICE AND METHOD OF USE FOR SAME

A fluid transfer device can include a first attachment portion configured to engage a first port of a source container and a second attachment portion configured to engage a second port of an intermediate container. The first attachment portion can include a first projection defining a first fluid passage and the second attachment portion can include a second projection defining a second fluid passage. The fluid transfer device can further include a selector portion for selectively transitioning the fluid transfer device from a first configuration in which a flow path between the first and second fluid passages is closed to a second configuration in which the flow path between the first and second fluid passages is open. The fluid transfer device can further include a limiter configured to inhibit the selector portion from selectively transitioning the fluid transfer device from the first configuration to the second configuration.

A syringe adaptor includes a body, shaped to define a body lumen, a syringe fitting at a proximal end of the body, configured to connect to a distal end of a syringe, a needle extending distally from the syringe fitting into the body lumen, a septum housing, and an elastomeric septum mounted inside the septum housing. The septum includes a proximal face, shaped to define an aperture having an aperture diameter, and a distal face. The septum is shaped to define a cavity, joined to the aperture, having a cavity diameter that is larger than the aperture diameter. The septum housing is configured to slide proximally within the body lumen such that a distal end of the needle contained in the cavity passes through the distal face of the septum. Other embodiments are also described.

MEDICATION DOSING SYSTEMS AND METHODS

A method of preparing liquid medication doses using an automated dosing device may include securing a vial within a vial holder. The vial includes a liquid medicament. An empty syringe is secured within a syringe holder with a plunger of the syringe being secured by a plunger gripper and a luer lock of the syringe within a luer lock gripper. The syringe holder and the vial holder are moved closer together to insert a needle of the syringe through a septum of the vial while longitudinal axes of the syringe and the vial are at a downward angle and while the vial holder is lower than the syringe holder. The syringe holder and the vial holder are rotated to vertically align the longitudinal axes with the vial holder above the syringe holder. The plunger gripper is pulled away from the luer lock gripper to transfer liquid medicament into the syringe.
