Method and device for detecting an occlusion in an infusion line
10814063 · 2020-10-27 ·

The invention relates to a method for detecting an occlusion in an infusion line (200) during an infusion process comprising the steps of receiving a periodically measured value of a force (F) that is applied by a pumping device (1) to push a liquid through the infusion line (200) and that is indicative of the pressure (P) in the infusion line (200), and subtracting from the measured force value (F) a frictional force component (F.sub.0), that is indicative of a true frictional force, for correcting the measured force value (F) by the true frictional force. The method is characterized in that the value of the frictional force component (F.sub.0) is periodically updated throughout the infusion process by applying an equation that comprises a term that takes into account the measured force (F).

A method to manage flushing of a catheter assembly a clamp configured to clamp an extension tube of a catheter assembly. The clamp may include an acoustic sensor configured to detect fluid flowing through the extension tube. The clamp and the acoustic sensor may be disposed outside of the extension tube. The clamp may include a pinch clamp or a non-pinch clamp. The acoustic sensor may be embedded in the clamp. The method may include detecting, via the acoustic sensor, fluid flowing through the extension tube.

Occlusion detection for infusion pumps

A system including a tube and a force sensor coupled to a wall of the tube via a restraining element and configured to obtain a value of a tubing force when the tube is deformed by the restraining element. The system includes a processor to determine parameters for fitting a curve including the value of the tubing force, to determine a fluid pressure value for a fluid in the tube based on the parameters for fitting the curve, and to activate an alarm responsive to the fluid pressure value and to the parameters for fitting the curve when an occlusion condition is identified in the tube. The parameters for fitting the curve comprise at least one time-decaying parameter(s) associated to the tubing force. A method for using the system and a non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions to perform the above method are also provided.

Infusion devices, systems, and related operating methods are provided. A method of detecting an occlusion in a fluid path involves a control module of an infusion device operating a driver module to provide energy to an actuation arrangement to achieve a commanded actuation state, wherein the actuation arrangement is coupled to a plunger configured to deliver fluid via the fluid path, obtaining a measured actuation state of the actuation arrangement via a sensing arrangement, and detecting an occlusion condition based on a relationship between the commanded actuation state and the measured actuation state.

ALARM SYSTEM FOR INTRAVENOUS PUMP OR CATHETER BASED UPON FUZZY LOGIC

In some embodiments, a self-monitoring intravenous catheter system is provided. An alarm controller is provided that receives signals representing a pH value, an oxygen saturation value, and a pressure value in proximity to the distal end of the catheter. By performing a fuzzy logic analysis of the values, the alarm controller is able to detect that the catheter is about to fail or has failed, and can cause alerts to be presented. In some embodiments, an intravenous catheter is provided that has a pH sensor and an oximeter disposed at a distal end of the catheter to obtain the pH value and oxygen saturation values analyzed by the alarm controller. Embodiments of the catheter and self-monitoring intravenous catheter system may be particularly useful in treating neonates, who are sensitive to catheter failure and are not capable of detecting the signs of failure themselves.
