An example injector includes a rotary knob for selecting a function and setting a dosing quantity for an injection, a button located on an end of the rotary knob for initiating the injection, an electric motor, an encoder for evaluating output rotary motion of the motor, and a processor that converts the dosing quantity into a number of encoder pulses and controls operation of the motor based on the number of encoder pulses when dosage is triggered. The injector also includes a transmission coupled to the electric motor to convert a speed of the motor, a threaded spindle coupled to the transmission that moves linearly based on the output rotary motion of the motor at the speed as converted by the transmission, and a punch connected to an end of the threaded spindle. The linear movement of the spindle causes the punch to release medicament.

A cartridge-based computer controlled self-injection device automatically regulates time and dosage administered to a patient. Cartridges can be electronically tagged so the injection device can determine the content, volume, expiration date, and physician prescribed dosage timetable. Authentication verifies the device and ensures the proper patient is using the device with the appropriate therapeutic injectant. Authentication further provides information controlling device operation including expiration dates and clock synchronization. Therapeutic injectant administration statistics, such as date and time of administration of a therapeutic injectant are stored and provide to a health care provider for monitoring. Patients can be notified of nearing or missed administrations.

Multiple dosage injector

A medicament dispensing mechanism is disclosed that is configured to eject successive doses of the medicament from a medicament chamber. An embodiment of the dispensing mechanism includes a housing and a plunger rod configured for ejecting the doses of medicament from the chamber. The dispensing mechanism further includes an actuation mechanism that comprises a trigger associated with the housing and having a ready and a fired position with respect thereto. The trigger is configured for manipulation by a user for successive movement in a generally axial dosing motion from the ready position to the fired position in which the trigger is associated with the plunger rod to cause the plunger rod to eject one of the doses of a predetermined volume and a resetting motion from the fired position to the ready position that comprises axial rotation, wherein the trigger is uncoupled from the plunger rod during the resetting motion.

Described is an electronics assembly with pressure or force sensing capabilities for use in a drug delivery device. The electronics assembly includes a processor, a sensor arranged to measure the force applied by a drive mechanism to drive a medicament from a cartridge, a wireless module to which an external device can be paired, a power module arranged to supply power to the assembly, and memory storing instructions for the processor to perform. The instructions include receiving a measurement signal during the drug delivery operation, and determining if the dose of the medicament was expelled from the drug delivery device based on the received measurement signal.

Drive Assembly for Drug Delivery System

A drive assembly for a drug delivery system includes a plunger member configured to engage and move a stopper within a container, with the plunger member having a first position and a second position axially spaced from the first position, a leadscrew configured to move the plunger member from the first position to the second position, and a biasing member configured to bias the leadscrew in a rotational direction, where rotational movement of the leadscrew is configured to move the plunger member from the first position to the second position.

Methods of actuating a needle array device can include causing fluid to move through flow channels to needle apertures that are spaced apart from an inflow aperture at different distances where flow channels that have approximately equal pathway lengths and where the fluid can reach tips of the needle apertures approximately simultaneously, which can provide an approximately equal dosage or fluid volume through the tips of the needle apertures.

Determination of a dose set and delivered in a medication delivery device

Sensing systems are disclosed for determining the relative rotational movements of members of a medication delivery device which are proportional to the amount of a dose set and delivered by the medication delivery device. The sensing system comprises a first sensor component secured to a first member and a second sensor component secured to a second member. During dose setting, the second member is coupled to a third member which rotates relative to the first member in proportion to the dose set. During dose delivery, the second member is coupled to a fourth member which rotates relative to the first member in proportion to the dose delivered. The sensing system separately detects the relative rotational positions of the first and second sensor components during dose setting and dose delivery, and provides outputs used to determine the amounts of the set and delivered doses. The sensing system outputs this information to a controller which determines the amount of the dose set and delivered. Related medication delivery devices and methods are also disclosed.
