Medical waste disposal and container washing system

A medical waste disposal and container washing system includes loading and unloading stations, the loading station configured for placing a medical waste container on a conveyor system. An inversion station is located downstream along the conveyor system, operable to reorient the container from a first orientation in which medical waste is retained to a second orientation in which the medical waste is discharged from the medical waste container by gravity as the medical waste container is moved within the inversion station. A first wash station along the conveyor system washes an interior of the container that has been reoriented. A second wash station is located downstream along the conveyor system.

Systems and methods for medicine delivery

Improved systems and methods for medicine delivery, and in particular, improved insulin pen needles and related devices are provided. Smart injection devices record and transfer data including medicine level, delivered dose, dose confirmation, and dose time and date. Additional data captured may include glucose concentration, insulin level, carbohydrates ingested, stress level, exercise, blood pressure, and glucose high and low excursion events. Various means of data collection and analysis are provided and systems can identify and flag patients who require intervention. Smart sleeves and add sensing capability to standard insulin pens. Pen needles are provided with sensing capability to confirm and measure doses delivered by insulin pen. A two-part pen cap include a primary sleeve that connects to the insulin pen and an end cap that provides for capturing the time of dose delivery, and monitoring the hold time for a dose delivery after plunger movement.

Pen needle assembly having an outer cover

A needle hub assembly for coupling to a pen needle delivery device includes an outer cover having a first well receiving the needle hub and inner shield covering a cannula of the needle hub. A second well is spaced from the first well and receives the inner shield. In use, the pen delivery device is coupled to the connecting end of the needle hub to withdraw the needle hub and inner shield from the first well. The inner shield is inserted into the second well where the inner shield is gripped so that the inner shield can be separated from the needle hub without the user handling the outer cover or the inner shield. After use, the needle hub is inserted into the first well and the pen needle delivery device is separated from the needle hub. The needle hub is retained within the first well where the outer cover containing the used needle hub and inner shield can be discarded as a single unit.

Safety Device for a Needle

A safety device for a needle of a medical device, the safety device including a ring adapted to be fixed with regard to the needle, a shield rotatably fixed on the ring, and the shield being configured to at least rotate in a closing direction from a retracted position in which the shield does not cover the needle to a safety position in which the shield covers the needle. The shield includes a proximal portion and a distal portion linked to the proximal portion so as to be rotatable from an operating position to a tilted position in which the distal portion is tilted with regard to the proximal portion.

Medical sharp removal and storage device

An apparatus for entirely removing a medical sharp from a holder to which it is connected, including a body (102), a heating unit (104) disposed in the body, a receiving unit (114) fixedly disposed in the body and configured to receive the holder, and a collet (122) movably disposed within the body and configured to receive the medical sharp. The apparatus also includes a first biasing member (130) disposed within the body, and a user interface (136) coupled to the collet and configured to displace the collet away from the receiving unit, actuate the first biasing member to increase a bias on the collet toward the receiving unit, and actuate the heating unit.

A needle hub assembly for coupling to a pen needle delivery device (10) includes an outer cover (30) having a first well (40) receiving the needle hub (16) and inner shield (24) covering a cannula (20) of the needle hub (16). A second well (42) is spaced from the first well (40) and has a dimension for receiving the inner shield (24). In use, the pen delivery device (10) is coupled to the connecting end of the needle hub (16) to withdraw the needle hub (16) and inner shield (24) from the first well (40). The inner shield (24) is inserted into the second well (42) where the inner shield (24) is gripped so that the inner shield can be separated from the needle hub (16) without the user handling the outer cover (30) or the inner shield (24). After use, the needle hub (16) is inserted into the first well (40) and the pen needle delivery device is separated from the needle hub (16). The needle hub (16) is retained within the first well (40) where the outer cover (30) containing the used needle hub and inner shield can be discarded as a single unit.

DEVICE FOR CUTTING, SEPARATION, AND DISCHARGE OF SYRINGE

A device for cutting, separation, and discharge of a syringe according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a barrel unit, a main body including a driving unit configured to rotate the barrel unit, and a cutting body configured to cut a needle portion of a syringe during rotation of the barrel unit, wherein transfer of the syringe inserted into the barrel unit, cutting of the needle portion, discharge of the needle portion, and discharge of a syringe main body are performed by only one rotation of the barrel unit.

Needle harvesting devices, systems and methods

A suturing system including an elongate distal member, an elongate proximal member proximal the elongate distal member, and a needle guide disposed between the elongate distal member and the elongate proximal member. A plurality of needles with a needle tip of each needle of the plurality of needles are orientated generally proximally toward a single opening in a distal end of the elongate proximal member. When the needle tip of each of the plurality of needles is at least partially disposed within the single opening, a portion of each needle of the plurality of needles, proximal a distal end of the needle guide, being radially separated by a distance less than a diameter of the elongated proximal member.

Systems, apparatuses, and methods for rendering drugs unusable, irretrievable, and suitable for non-regulated waste disposal

Apparatuses and systems are provided which include one or more receptacles for receiving drugs and further include one or more stored supplies of one or more absorbent materials comprising crosslinkers, wherein the apparatus and systems are adapted to release the absorbent materials comprising crosslinkers into the one or more receptacles. A method is provided which includes depositing a drug into a predetermined amount of fluid and adding to the drug containing fluid a absorbent material comprising crosslinkers which is capable of encapsulating the drug containing fluid and possibly killing infectious materials within the fluid and/or denaturing the drug within the fluid.

An apparatus for processing a phlebotomy needle having a double-ended needle with a hub between its tips. The apparatus has a clamping electrode for contacting/clamping one end of the needle between the hub and tip and a tip electrode for contacting the needle at its tip. A voltage is applied between the clamping electrode and the tip electrode, to soften/melt the needle via resistive heating, at the same time as the tip electrode is advanced to compress the needle tip and blunt it. The apparatus includes means for allowing the needle to be rotated through so that the first tip and the second tip can be blunted. Also disclosed is means for detaching the needle from a main body and/or for removing a cover covering one end of the needle. The apparatus enables a Vacutainer-type needle to be disassembled into its various parts and the needle rendered blunt and non-hazardous.
