A therapy of oxygen pulses delivered through the pulmonary system of human patient for treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson Disease (PD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Amiotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and other dementias, and Lymphedema, Arthritis and Depression is provided. Aspects of the methods including administering to the subjects an effective amount of oxygen as pulses through the respiratory tract are included. Also provided are methods of assessing severity of the disease, mild, moderate, severe, or critical, and oxygen doses and frequencies. The method can be applied to human patient for treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson Disease (PD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Amiotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and other dementias, and Lymphedema, arthritis and depression.
IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO PROVISION OF GAS-FLOW
The disclosure relates to a method and respiratory system, comprising: a flow generator to provide a gas-flow to a patient, the gas flow comprising an oxygen fraction, and a controller configured to: receive input relating to oxygen fraction at a patient's nose and/or mouth, adjust the gas-flow flow rate based on the oxygen fraction at the patient's nose and/or mouth.
Positive air pressure therapy device, kit and methods for the use and assembly thereof
A positive air pressure delivery device includes a housing having an inhalation inlet, an inhalation outlet, and an interior cavity in fluid communication with the inhalation inlet and outlet. A pressurized fluid inlet includes an outlet orifice in fluid communication with the interior cavity between the inhalation inlet and outlet. A sound reducer baffle has a convex dome surface positioned downstream of and facing the outlet orifice in a spaced apart relationship therewith. One embodiment of the housings includes a body, an end cap and a baffle insert. In various embodiments, the positive air pressure delivery device may be used in combination with other therapy devices, including an OPEP and pressure indicator. A kit and method of using the device are also provided.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TREATMENT WITH NITRIC OXIDE
A system for providing a NO-containing gas flow to treat a biological object. The system includes a nozzle receptacle for receiving NO-rich air from a plasma-generated NO source, tubing coupled to the nozzle for directing the NO-rich air to a scrubber, the scrubber configured to receive a solvent for absorbing NO2, tubing coupled between the scrubber and a gas mixer for directing scrubbed NO-rich air to the gas mixer, where the gas mixer is coupled to a source of atmospheric air for selectively mixing the scrubbed NO-rich air with the atmospheric air to create diluted NO-containing air; and a manifold for distributing the diluted NO-containing air to a plurality of patient locations.
Water out alarm
The present invention provides for an improved method of determining a water out condition in a humidified gases supply apparatus. The method includes a two step process including a primary determination of a water out condition and a secondary determination of a water out condition. This primary determination is made during observation of the normal operation of the apparatus. During the secondary determination the method takes temporary control over the humidifying part of the apparatus. The secondary determination confirms or contradicts the primary determination.
Powder Delivery Devices
A nasal delivery device for delivering substance to a nasal cavity of a subject, the delivery device comprising: a substance supply unit for supplying a dose of substance to be delivered to the nasal cavity of the subject, the substance supply unit including an inlet and an outlet; a nosepiece unit including a nosepiece for fitting to a nasal cavity of the subject and being in fluid communication with the outlet of the substance supply unit; and a mouthpiece unit including a mouthpiece in fluid communication with the inlet of the substance supply unit and through which the subject in use exhales such as to entrain substance from the container chamber and deliver the same through the nosepiece, and at least one temperature modifier for reducing a temperature of the exhaled air flow such as to reduce the absolute humidity thereof.
Humidification system
A humidification system has a humidification source and a main gases flow path. The main gases flow path has a low pressure region and a high pressure region. In some embodiments, each of the low pressure region and the high pressure region has an aperture. The pressure difference between the apertures promotes a gases flow between the main gases flow path and the humidification source, and results in humidifying the gases in the main gases flow path.
PORTABLE VENTILATOR
A portable oxygen delivery system including an oxygen concentrator having a housing, a compressor mounted inside the housing, a sieve module located within the housing and in fluid connection with the compressor, the sieve module containing a zeolite for removing Nitrogen from air through a pressure swing adsorption process for creating concentrated oxygen, a power source attached to the housing and an oxygen controller device for electronically controlling the pressure swing adsorption process. The portable oxygen delivery system also preferably includes a blowing apparatus fluidly connected to the oxygen concentrator having a blower housing, a blower motor mounted inside the blower housing, a blower fan connected to the blower motor, a second power source attached to the blower housing and a blower controller device for electronically controlling the blower.
BREATHING REGULATOR WITH DYNAMIC DILUTION CONTROL
A breathing regulator including a first stage regulator, a second stage regulator, a dilution valve, a mixing chamber, and a controller is provided. The first stage regulator is in fluid communication with pressurized source gas. The second stage regulator is in fluid communication with the first stage regulator. The dilution valve is in fluid communication with an ambient gas and includes a size-variable restriction. The mixing chamber is in fluid communication with the second stage regulator, the dilution valve, and a breathing cavity. The controller is in electrical communication with the dilution valve, the second stage regulator, and a plurality of sensors. The controller is configured to: determine a mass flow of the source gas; determine mass flow of the ambient gas; and vary the size-variable restriction of the dilution valve based on the mass flow of the source and/or the mass flow of the ambient gas.
Method and apparatus for facilitating delivery of anaesthetic
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for facilitating anaesthesia, particularly in Re-Breather anaesthetic circuits. A problem with Re-Breather circuits is that their dynamic response can be relatively slow. The dynamic response is the response of the circuit to delivering changes of anaesthetic concentration. In current circuits, Fresh Gas containing anaesthetic is delivered into the circuit and may be substantially diluted by the gas already present in the circuit. It is therefore difficult to achieve a rapid increase of anaesthetic concentration for delivery to the patient. In the present invention, an accumulator is placed in the Re-Breather circuit to accumulate Fresh Gas containing anaesthetic as it is introduced into the circuit, adjacent an inhalation conduit to the patient. Fresh Gas containing high concentrations of anaesthetic is therefore immediately available to the patient.
