CATHETER ASSEMBLIES AND RELATED METHODS
Needle devices having a component that provides the function of fixing a valve in a standard diameter sized catheter hub, the valve and/or the component provide or provides a proximally directed axial force for returning the valve opener from a distal position within the catheter hub to a proximal position within the catheter hub when a male Luer is disconnected from the catheter hub. Various components can be located inside a single hub body catheter hub that can restrict fluid flow, allow actuation to permit fluid flow, prevent needlestick injuries, and combinations thereof.
Safety intravenous catheter with friction-based retention and disabling feature
A catheter and introducer needle assembly, including a flexible catheter and a catheter hub having an outer surface portion. The assembly includes an introducer needle disposed in the catheter, a needle shield having a resilient clip adapted to flex between first and second positions. The resilient clip includes a cantilevered arm with a pawl. In the resilient clip's first position, the cantilevered arm is flexed so that the pawl frictionally contacts the catheter hub's outer surface portion to retain the needle shield with the catheter hub. In the second position, the pawl no longer frictionally contacts the hub's outer surface, thereby permitting needle shield displacement relative to the catheter hub.
Catheter assembly and components thereof
Catheter assemblies are generally discussed herein with particular discussions extended to catheter assemblies having a tip protector, a valve, a valve opener, and optionally a needle wiper. The valve opener is disposed inside a catheter hub and is configured to be pushed by an IV set luer connector to open a valve following successful catheterization to pass fluids or other solutions through the catheter. A tip protector is incorporated to block the needle tip and prevent the same from accidental needle stick. A wiper is optionally included to wipe blood deposits from the needle when the same is retracted from the catheter.
Closed system catheter
A catheter hub assembly. The catheter hub assembly includes a catheter hub body, a septum and a septum retainer, the catheter hub body having a distal end, a proximal and an internal wall defining an internal fluid passageway therebetween, the internal wall defining a transitional step within the internal fluid passageway, the septum positioned within the internal fluid passageway such that a distal end of the septum abuts up against the transitional step, the septum retainer at least partially receivable within the internal fluid passageway and having an outer wall shaped and sized to interlock with the inner wall of the catheter hub body, the outer wall including one or more lateral ribs configured to inhibit rotation of the septum retainer relative to the catheter hub body.
Safety needle device
A safety needle device is disclosed having a housing configured to couple to a syringe, the housing having a proximal end, a distal end, and a housing body. A needle hub is disposed on the proximal end of the housing and a needle cannula is attached to the needle hub. The device having a retractable sheath configured to move between an initial position, a retracted position and an extended position with respect to the housing, wherein the initial position partially exposes a distal tip of the needle cannula, the retracted position fully exposes the needle cannula, and the extended position fully covers the distal tip of the needle cannula. The safety needle device may include an activation latch, a lockout latch, a tether and a spring element to bias the retractable sheath to an extended state to cover the distal end of the needle cannula upon completion of an injection. The safety needle device may include a slider element disposed above an activation latch. A method of drug delivery is also disclosed.
