Handling and Control System for Expandable Electrodes of A Handpiece for Use in an Electro-Poration Process
A handling and control system for expandable electrodes of a handpiece is provided that includes a plurality of flexible electrodes made of elastic cables carried by a support assembly with needle-shaped front portions that protrude from the support assembly and move in a three-dimensional space under the push of actuators. An electronic control device performs the following functions: a) providing a command to the actuators to perform an initial handling of each cable according to an initial step Δh performing an axial advancement of the front portion with respect to the second proximal end and a distancing of the front portion from the axis H; b) determining for each pair of electrodes the spacing or distance l.sub.i, measured along a direction perpendicular to the axis, between the tips of the front portions of the pair of electrodes; c) determining a voltage V as a function of the spacing l.sub.i, V=f(l.sub.i) and applying to each electrode a pulsed signal having maximum voltage equal to the calculated value V; e) repeating the steps a), b) and c) for a plurality n of steps k successive to the initial one so that the active portions of the electrodes move in space in a three-dimensional application area becoming distanced from each other; the voltage applied to the electrodes increasing linearly with the increasing of the spacing so as to generate an electric field which ensures in the application area complete electro-poration of tissue.
Arrays for Longitudinal Delivery of TTFields to a Body
Tumors in portions of a subject's body that have a longitudinal axis (e.g., the torso, head, and arm) can be treated with TTFields by affixing first and second sets of electrodes at respective positions that are longitudinally prior to and subsequent to a target region. An AC voltage with a frequency of 100-500 kHz is applied between these sets of electrodes. This imposes an AC electric field with field lines that run through the target region longitudinally. The field strength is at least 1 V/cm in at least a portion of the target region. In some embodiments, this approach is combined with the application of AC electric fields through the target region in a lateral direction (e.g., front to back and/or side to side) in order to apply AC electric fields with different orientations to the target region.
ELECTRODE SENSOR KIT, ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY, AND TOPICAL PREPARATION FOR ESTABLISHING ELECTRICAL CONTACT WITH SKIN, USE THEREOF, AND METHOD OF ELECTRO-IMPEDANCE TOMOGRAPHY (EIT) IMAGING USING THESE
An electrode sensor kit for establishing electrical contact with skin comprises at least one contact element and a preparation comprising a mixture of water and at least one lipid for enhancing electrical contact properties between said contact element and the skin, wherein said mixture forms an emulsion, in particular a water-in-oil or an oil-in-water emulsion, having a conductivity of less than 3 mS/cm. An electrode assembly for electrical impedance tomography which comprises said kit is characterized in that (a) said at least one contact element forms an electrode or sensor plate, and (b) said at least one contact element comprises a layer of said preparation.
NEUROSLEEVE FOR ASSESSMENT OF PATHOLOGICAL TREMORS
A garment is wearable on an anatomical region and includes electrodes contacting the anatomical region when the garment is worn on the anatomical region. An electronic controller is configured to detect electromyography (EMG) signals as a function of anatomical location and time using the electrodes, and identify tremors as a function of anatomical location and time based on the EMG signals.
VARIABLE ELECTROSTIMULATIVE BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION
A method for variable electrostimulative behavior modification includes sensing placement of a first anatomical portion of a body in contact to a surface of a target object adapted for behavior modification with a multiplicity of electrostimulative end points coupled to an energy source. The method additionally includes delivering an electrical neurostimulus through one of the end points nearest to the placement of the first anatomical portion in proximity to the surface the electrical neurostimulus including a waveform promoting a modification of behavior associated with the placement of the first anatomical portion in proximity to the surface. Thereafter, an anomalous characteristic of the sensed placement indicating a failure to modify the behavior may be detected and a profile of the waveform of the electrical neurostimulus changes to a different waveform in response to the anomalous characteristic of the sensed placement.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
The present invention relates to anti-microbial, antiviral, fibers, and fabrics and to devices made from said fabrics. The invention has particular utility in connection with personal protective equipment (PPE’s) such as surgical masks and respirators, and will be described in connection with such utilities, although other utilities are contemplated, including, for example for forming air handling filters for people movers, i.e., automobiles, trucks, buses, trains, ships and planes, as well as for forming filters for air handling equipment for buildings.
