COCHLEA HEALTH MONITORING

Presented herein are in-situ techniques for monitoring a recipient's cochlea health to proactively identify (i.e., predict) changes to the recipient's cochlea health outside of a clinical setting. The cochlea health monitoring techniques presented herein obtain one or more cochlea health biomarkers associated with a recipient's cochlea health, such the recipient's residual hearing, and analyze these biomarkers to predict that a cochlea health change is likely to occur.

A cochlear implant is disclosed in an embodiment. The implant includes a signal level detector configured to determine a total signal level of an incoming acoustic signal and a processing unit configured to determine, in accordance with the determined total signal level, an intermediate knee point for each of a plurality of frequency bands. The implant includes a bandpass filters configured to generate a plurality of band limited audio signals in dependence upon the incoming acoustic signal, each band limited acoustic signal representing an associated audio frequency range relating to at least one electrode of a plurality of an implanted electrode array of the cochlear implant. The implant includes a pulse controller configured to deliver electrical stimulation signals to the plurality of electrodes of the implanted electrode array based on the generated signals and the determined intermediate knee point corresponding to the frequency range.

Complex stimulation channel arrangements

Presented herein are techniques for determining an arrangement of complex stimulation channels to optimally distribute sensory information across the channels of a multi-channel tissue-stimulating prosthesis. A tissue-stimulating prosthesis may initially be associated with a set of complex stimulation channels. A stimulation efficiency is determined for each complex stimulation channel within the set of complex stimulation channels. A first complex stimulation channel from the set of complex stimulation channels that has an associated stimulation efficiency that is below a stimulation efficiency limit is identified. The first complex stimulation channel is combined with an adjacent/neighboring complex stimulation channel to create a combined complex stimulation channel. The combined complex stimulation channel replaces both the first complex stimulation channel and the adjacent complex stimulation channel within the set of complex stimulation channels.

AUDITORY NEURAL INTERFACE DEVICE
20230191129 · 2023-06-22 ·

An auditory neural interface device for sound perception by an individual that may be used as a hearing aid. The auditory neural interface device includes a receiver configured to receive sound signals, a processor operably connected to the receiver and configured to encode a received sound signal as a multi-channel neurostimulation signal, and a neurostimulation device operably connected to the processor and configured to apply the multi-channel neurostimulation signal to a neurostimulation electrode of the individual. The neurostimulation signal is configured to directly stimulate afferent sensory neurons of the central nervous system of the individual and thereby to elicit, for each channel of the neurostimulation signal, one or more non-auditory, preferably somatosensory, perceptions in a cortex area of the individual. Each channel of the neurostimulation signal is associated with a different non-auditory perception.

METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING A ZIRCONIA PART TO A TITANIUM ELEMENT

A method for assembling a zirconia part to a titanium element with braze, the method comprising the following steps: coating a surface of the titanium element with a niobium layer, positioning a braze between the zirconia part and the niobium, the braze being of gold or a gold alloy, heating the whole to a temperature higher than the melting temperature of the braze, and then cooling the whole, whereby an assembly comprising the zirconia part and the titanium element assembled by a brazing joint comprising a first portion of gold or a gold alloy, a second portion formed by a reaction layer comprising intermetallics of the AuNbTi system, and a third portion formed by an oxide reaction layer is obtained.

A hearing assistance device includes an implantable part for electrically stimulating an auditory nerve of a user. The electrical stimulation of the cochlear nerve by a cochlear implant hearing assistance device is improved by providing an implanted part that comprises a) a current source generator; and b) an electrode array configured to be located inside one of the cochlear scala or adjacent to the auditory nerve. The hearing assistance device is configured to produce a time-varying waveform delivered by the current source generator, the time-varying waveform comprising a positively sloping positive pulse.

Impact protection for implantable electric lead

An implantable electric lead arrangement for a medical implant system includes an implantable electric lead with parallel lead wires wound in an elongated helix about a central longitudinal axis. At least one support wire is parallel to the lead wires and has a higher strain energy absorption capacity than the lead wires to mechanically strengthen the lead wires against external impact force.

Minimal material ear sensor system

The technology involves scaffold structures used for in-ear sensor systems. Such systems that can perform biometric signal detection or act as a human-computer interface. Scaffolding arrangements minimize the amount of material placed in the ear while providing a secure fitting device that can be worn for hours, days or longer in order to provide maximal benefit to the wearer. The scaffolding includes a “C”-shaped arcuate curvature for at least part of the housing. This configuration can act as a natural leaf spring to help maintain the housing in contact with different points along the ear. Sensors are located along various points of the scaffolding for use in different diagnostic situations. Different components of an on-board sensor input and processing system can be distributed along different parts of the scaffolding. Such structures beneficially minimize ambient sound occlusion and avoid the need of an exterior strap or clip worn around the ear.
