Feedback brain stimulation to enhance sleep spindles, modulate memory and cognitive function, and treat psychiatric and neurological symptoms
The present invention relates to methods for modulating bursts of oscillatory brain activity, such as sleep spindles, in a subject. The invention further relates to methods of improving memory or cognitive function in a subject and method of modulating or enhancing the frequency of occurrence, structure, amplitude, and/or synchronization of sleep spindles in a subject by detecting a burst of oscillatory brain activity in the subject and passing an oscillating current through the skull of the subject.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF MEDICAL DISORDERS
The present disclosure relates to methods, devices and systems used for the treatment of medical disorders via stimulation of the superficial elements of the trigeminal nerve. More specifically, cutaneous methods of stimulation of the superficial branches of the trigeminal nerve located extracranially in the face, namely the supraorbital, supratrochlear, infraorbital, auriculotemporal, zygomaticotemporal, zygomaticoorbital, zygomaticofacial, infraorbital, nasal and mentalis nerves (also referred to collectively as the superficial trigeminal nerve) are disclosed herein.
Treatment of Thalamocortical Dysrhythmia
A method for treating conditions associated with thalamocortical dysrhythmia. The method includes applying transcranial low voltage electrical stimulation (TLVES) therapy or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy to a patient in need thereof, and administering to the patient a dissociative anesthetic during the TLVES therapy or the TMS therapy. A number of conditions including tinnitus, depression and pain can be treated with TLVES or TMS in combination with the dissociative anesthetic, such as an NMADR inhibitor, including ketamine.
DEVICE FOR NON-INVASIVE NEURO-STIMULATION BY MEANS OF MULTICHANNEL BURSTS
A device is provided for the stimulation of neurons that includes a non-invasive stimulation unit to generate stimuli in multiple stimulation channels, where the stimulation unit stimulates a neuron population in the brain and/or spinal cord of a patient in different locations for each of the stimulation channels. Moreover, the device includes a control unit that controls the stimulation unit to generate repetitive bursts in each of the stimulation channels, where each of the bursts includes multiple stimuli and is designed so that they do not reset the phase of the neuronal activity of the respective stimulated neurons.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING ELECTRICAL STIMULATION TO A USER
A method for providing electrical stimulation to a user as a user performs a set of tasks during a time window, the method comprising: providing an electrical stimulation treatment, characterized by a stimulation parameter and a set of portions, to a brain region of the user in association with the time window; for each task of the set of tasks: receiving a signal stream characterizing a neurological state of the user; from the signal stream, identifying a neurological signature characterizing the neurological state associated with the task; and modulating the electrical stimulation treatment provided to the brain region of the user based upon the neurological signature, wherein modulating comprises delivering a portion of the set of portions of the electrical stimulation treatment to the brain region of the user, while maintaining an aggregate amount of the stimulation parameter of the treatment provided during the time window below a maximum limit.
BODY-CONDITION-DEPENDENT STIMULATION WITH REAL-TIME COMMUNICATION BETWEEN AN ACTION MODULE AND A CAPTURE MODULE
The invention relates to a system for body-condition-dependent stimulation by means of function modules, e. g. an action module (2, D/A module) for stimulating tissue and a capture module (3, A/D module) for deriving/measuring bio data or bio signals, characterized in that the two modules communicate via a communication link (5) that meets hard or at least firm real-time requirements. The communication link (5) preferably comprises a real-time-capable bus to which the two modules are connected, above all an EtherCAT bus.
AUGMENTED REALITY COORDINATED WITH NERVE STIMULATION TO ENHANCE PERFORMANCE
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for increasing performance, improving sleep and improving relaxation that involve specifically coordinating nerve stimulation of a cranial nerve (e.g. vagus nerve) in conjunction with augmented reality (AR). According to certain embodiments disclosed are systems that include an AR component that presents information or a stimulus and provides cranial nerve fiber stimulation (CNFS) at strategic times to reduce anxiety/arousal/related during user activity or scenarios and reinforce learning.
Trial stimulation systems
A trial stimulation system includes a trial electrical stimulator. Additionally, systems for securing a disposable trial stimulator to the body of a patient are described, which may function to improve the durability of the system during the trial period and reduce the risk of damage or malfunction to the system due to lead/electrode dislocation and/or off-label uses like showering or bathing with the trial stimulator still secured to the body.
Non-invasive vagal nerve stimulation to treat disorders
Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for treating a variety of diseases and disorders that are primarily or at least partially driven by an imbalance in neurotransmitters in the brain, such as asthma, COPD, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, and the like. The invention involves the use of an energy source comprising magnetic and/or electrical energy that is transmitted non-invasively to, or in close proximity to, a selected nerve to temporarily stimulate, block and/or modulate the signals in the selected nerve such that neural pathways are activated to release inhibitory neurotransmitters in the patient's brain.
Automated program optimization
An example of a system may include a processor, and a memory device comprising instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to access at least one of patient input, clinician input, or automatic input, use the patient input, clinician input, or automatic input in a search method, the search method designed to evaluate a plurality of candidate neuromodulation parameter sets to identify an optimal neuromodulation parameter set, and program a neuromodulator using the optimal neuromodulation parameter set to stimulate a patient.
