Staged rhythm detection system and method
A medical device and associated method for detecting and treating tachyarrhythmias acquires a cardiac signal using electrodes coupled to a sensing module. During an initial detection process, a shockable cardiac rhythm is detected by a processing module configured to compare the cardiac signal to a first set of detection criteria. By analyzing the cardiac signal, the processing module establishes at least one patient-specific detection threshold during the initial detection process. Upon establishing the at least one patient-specific detection threshold, the initial detection process is stopped, and a next detection process is started which includes comparing the cardiac signal to a second set of detection criteria including the at least one patient-specific detection threshold. In some embodiments, user programming of tachyarrhythmia detection parameters is not required.
MEDICAL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PREDICTING CARDIAC EVENT SENSING BASED ON SENSING CONTROL PARAMETERS
A medical device is configured to receive sensed cardiac event data including a value of a feature determined from each one of a plurality of cardiac events sensed from a cardiac signal according to a first setting of a sensing control parameter. The medical device is configured to classify each value of the feature of each one of the sensed cardiac events as either a predicted sensed event or a predicted undersensed event according to a second setting of the sensing control parameter that is less sensitive to sensing cardiac events than the first setting. The medical device is configured to determine a predicted sensed event interval between each consecutive pair of the predicted sensed events and predict that an arrhythmia is detected or not detected based on the predicted sensed event intervals.
Electrodes for intra-cardiac pacemaker
A pacemaker has a housing and a therapy delivery circuit enclosed by the housing for generating pacing pulses for delivery to a patient's heart. An electrically insulative distal member is coupled directly to the housing and at least one non-tissue piercing cathode electrode is coupled directly to the insulative distal member. A tissue piercing electrode extends away from the housing.
Methods and apparatus to stimulate the heart
A method and apparatus for treatment of hypertension and heart failure by increasing secretion of endogenous atrial hormones by pacing of the heart. Pacing is done during the ventricular refractory period resulting in premature atrial contraction that does not result in ventricular contraction. Pacing results in the atrial wall stress, peripheral vasodilation, ANP secretion. Concomitant reduction of the heart rate is monitored and controlled as needed with backup pacing.
SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND RELATED METHODS FOR CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA THERAPY
A system for treating cardiac arrhythmias comprising a generator including: a sensing circuitry configured to evaluate one or more identified signals representative of electrical activity of the heart and detect an arrhythmia, a control circuitry that is configured to control delivery of a therapy in response to the detected arrhythmia, the therapy including a first stage of electrical pulses delivered via at least a first electrode, wherein the first set of electrical pulses is configured to destabilize and/or terminate a reentry associated with the arrhythmia, and a first lead coupled to the generator, wherein the first lead includes the first electrode.
SYNCHRONIZATION OF ANTI-TACHYCARDIA PACING IN AN EXTRA-CARDIOVASCULAR IMPLANTABLE SYSTEM
An extra-cardiovascular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) system receives a cardiac electrical signal by an electrical sensing circuit via an extra-cardiovascular sensing electrode vector and senses cardiac events from the cardiac electrical signal. The ICD system detects tachycardia from the cardiac electrical signal and determines a tachycardia cycle length from the cardiac electrical signal. The ICD system determines an ATP interval based on the tachycardia cycle length and sets an extended ATP interval that is longer than the ATP interval. The ICD delivers ATP pulses to a patient's heart via an extra-cardiovascular pacing electrode vector different than the sensing electrode vector. The ATP pulses include a leading ATP pulse delivered at the extended ATP interval after a cardiac event is sensed from the cardiac electrical signal and a second ATP pulse delivered at the ATP interval following the leading ATP pulse.
Methods and devices for accurately classifying cardiac activity
Methods, systems, and devices for signal analysis in an implanted cardiac monitoring and treatment device such as an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. In some examples, captured data including detected events is analyzed to identify likely overdetection of cardiac events. In some illustrative examples, when overdetection is identified, data may be modified to correct for overdetection, to reduce the impact of overdetection, or to ignore overdetected data. Several examples emphasize the use of morphology analysis using correlation to static templates and/or inter-event correlation analysis.
Apparatus and method for the detection and treatment of atrial fibrillation
Embodiments of the invention provide methods for the detection and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) and related conditions. One embodiment provides a method comprising measuring electrical activity of the heart using electrodes arranged on the heart surface to define an area for detecting aberrant electrical activity (AEA) and then using the measured electrical activity (MEA) to detect foci of AEA causing AF. A pacing signal may then be sent to the foci to prevent AF onset. Atrial wall motion characteristics (WMC) may be sensed using an accelerometer placed on the heart and used with MEA to detect AF. The WMC may be used to monitor effectiveness of the pacing signal in preventing AF and/or returning the heart to normal sinus rhythm (NSR). Also, upon AF detection, a cardioversion signal may be sent to the atria using the electrodes to depolorize an atrial area causing AF and return the heart to NSR.
Controller, and patch type automated external defibrillator for controlling defibrillation using the same
A wearable patch-type automatic defibrillator attachable to a region of a patient near the patient's heart includes a battery which stores electrical energy for defibrillation, a controller which controls the battery, electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes, and defibrillation electrodes. The controller analyzes ECG signals of the patient received through the ECG electrodes, and automatically provides the patient with the electrical energy stored in the battery through the defibrillation electrodes when defibrillation is needed according to a result of the analysis.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ATRIAL TACHYARRHYTHMIA DETECTION
An implantable medical device is configured to determine a first atrial arrhythmia score from ventricular events sensed by a sensing circuit of an implantable medical device and determine a second atrial arrhythmia score from an intraventricular signal comprising atrial mechanical event signals attendant to atrial systole and produced by a sensor of the implantable medical device. An atrial arrhythmia is detected based on the first atrial arrhythmia score and the second atrial arrhythmia score.
