A blood sampling device (1) comprising a housing (10) and a lancet (50). The housing has a fixed abutment surface for holdingly engaging the lancet in a rearward primed position. The blood sampling device further comprises a trigger (22) moveable from a rest position to a fire position to release the lancet for forward movement, wherein the trigger deflects the lancet body in a direction generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the housing such that the lancet body may move forwardly past the fixed abutment surface.

The present invention provides a surgically invasive pointed article for skin penetration and capillary whole blood extraction whose penetration ability can be disabled after use by deforming the tips. The present invention is made by injection molding a plastic needle 35 having an anchoring means 45 using a first material, followed by another injection molding process to over-mold a first body segment 20 and second body segment 30 using a second material to encase the plastic needle 35 thereby anchoring the plastic needle 35 to prevent further movement of the plastic needle 35. The encasing of the second material provide a barrier isolating the plastic needle 35 from the ambient to protect the tips 50 from damage and once sterilized, to conserve the sterile conditions till point of use. The barrier formed by a second over-molding process comprises a detachable cap 20 and a body 30. The present invention is normally used for blood sampling applications but can also be used for applications such as vaccination or skin allergy testing, and transdermal/intradermal drug delivery.

Lancet Device

The lancet device includes a housing and a lancet having a puncturing element. The lancet is disposed within the housing and is adapted for axial movement between an initial or pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing, and a puncturing position wherein the puncturing element extends through a forward opening in the housing. The lancet device includes a drive spring disposed within the housing for biasing the lancet toward the puncturing position, and a retraction or return spring for returning the lancet to a position within the housing where the puncturing element is disposed within the housing. The retraction spring thereafter maintains engagement with the lancet to assist in preventing the puncturing element from again projecting outward from the forward opening in the housing.

Cam-actuated medical puncturing device and method

The medical puncturing device includes a housing, a shield, and a skin puncturing assembly disposed within the housing. The shield is axially movable in the housing. The skin puncturing assembly includes a movable carrier and a skin puncturing element mounted to the carrier. A distal end of the skin puncturing element is adapted for puncturing the skin of a patient. The carrier is movable from a retracted position wherein the skin puncturing element is disposed within the shield to a puncturing position wherein the distal end of the skin puncturing element is exposed. The carrier is maintained in the retracted position by engagement of flexure members or a retaining tab with the carrier. A drive spring is provided to move the carrier from the retracted position to the puncturing position. A retraction spring is provided to return the carrier and skin puncturing element into the housing.

Biological Fluid Collection Device

The present invention provides a biological fluid collection device that includes a first end, a second end, and a sidewall extending therebetween defining a tube body. The biological fluid collection device further includes a sample collection portion having a cavity defined by a portion of the sidewall adjacent the first end and a puncturing element adjacent the second end. The cavity has a sample collection bottom surface and an external diameter. The puncturing element is adapted for movement between a pre-actuated position and a puncturing position. The portion of the sidewall surrounding the puncturing element has an external diameter that is substantially the same as the external diameter of the sample collection portion. The biological fluid collection device of the present disclosure can be used to both pierce a patient's skin surface to initiate blood flow and to collect a blood sample within the cavity of the tube.
