Devices and Methods for Fluid Transfer Through a Placed Peripheral Intravenous Catheter

A transfer device includes an introducer coupleable to a peripheral intravenous catheter, with the introducer having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, a catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, a secondary catheter having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion and defining a lumen, and an actuator receiving the proximal end portion of the catheter and the distal end portion of the secondary catheter. The actuator is moveable within introducer from a first position where the distal end portion of the catheter is positioned within the introducer to a second position where the distal end portion of the catheter is positioned outside of the introducer.

BLOOD COLLECTION SAFETY DEVICES AND METHODS OF USE AND MANUFACTURE

An automatically locking safety device, e.g., for use in a blood collection procedure, can include a housing, first and second needle covers that are at least partly received in the housing, and a needle that is at least partly received in at least one of the first and second needle covers. The needle can include a proximal tip configured for placement into a patient and a distal tip configured for placement into a blood collection vial. In some embodiments, the first and second needle covers are biased by a biasing member. In some cases, one or both of the first and second needle covers can be locked to prevent axial movement thereof after the blood collection procedure. In certain embodiments, a distal end of the device is configured to connect with a medical connector, such as a needleless IV access device.

Needle Guard

A needle set includes a needle guard with upper and lower jaws each defining a channel and joined at a hinge. Each edge of the jaws is aligned with and spaced from a respective edge of the opposite jaw defining slots alongside walls of the jaws. A winged needle has a cannula, a hub with a pair of wings with a tube connected to the cannula by the hub. The hinge portion has an opening into which the tube is received, and the side walls are spaced apart to permit the hub to be received between the jaws with the wings in the slots. The slots progressively narrow to a first spacing that is narrower than a thickness of each wing at a point thereof, and thereafter expand linearly to a second spacing that is substantially equal to the thickness of the wings.

Needle assembly with diagnostic analysis provisions

A needle assembly. The needle assembly enabling the analysis of fluid trapped in a flashback chamber after an insertion needle has been inserted into a patient's vein.

A shieldable needle device with a needle cannula, a hub supporting the needle cannula, and a tip guard axially movable along the needle cannula where, upon transition, the tip guard protectively surrounds the distal end of the needle cannula. The needle device includes a pair of wings extending laterally from opposing sides of the tip guard and connected to the hub. The pair of wings are transitionable between a first position and a second position, wherein transition of the pair of wings advances the tip guard from a proximal position to a shielding distal position. The wings include protrusions which cause the longitudinal axis of the needle cannula to become offset from the opening of the tip guard during advancement of the tip guard preventing the needle cannula from being reinserted through the tip guard after the tip guard has been transitioned to the distal position.

SAFETY CONNECTOR WITH NEEDLE

A safety connector has a needle, and includes a tubular protective sleeve with a distal section, having a movable wall portion arranged in the peripheral wall thereof. The movable wall portion is selectively movable between a retracted position and a protection position. In the retracted position, the movable wall portion is aligned with the peripheral wall of the proximal section of the tubular protective sleeve. In the protection position, the movable wall portion projects into the inner space of the tubular protective sleeve.

A syringe assembly for fluid collection includes a housing having a sidewall defining a hollow bore therein, and an elongate plunger with the distal end of the plunger forming a chamber within the hollow bore for containing a fluid therein. The plunger is adapted for slideable movement within the hollow bore between an initial position and a retracted position. The assembly includes a hub disposed at least partially within the hollow bore and at least partially supporting a cannula therewith. The hub is adapted to automatically transition from an initial position in which at least a portion of the cannula is disposed external to the housing, to a retracted position in which the cannula is fully shielded by the housing, upon transition of the elongate plunger from the initial position to the retracted position.

A safety catheter insertion assembly including a catheter hub coupling assembly. The safety catheter insertion assembly having a needle hub slideably coupled to a needle housing such that the needle hub is moveable between a first position wherein an insertion needle extends from the needle housing, and a second position wherein the sharp distal tip is housed within the needle housing, the catheter hub coupling assembly coupling the catheter hub to the needle housing in the first position and releasing the catheter hub from the needle housing in the second position.

Devices and methods for fluid transfer through a placed peripheral intravenous catheter

An apparatus includes a catheter, an introducer, and an actuator. A distal end portion of the introducer is configured to couple to an indwelling peripheral intravenous line. The actuator is movably coupled to the introducer and is configured to move the catheter between a first position, in which the catheter is disposed within the introducer, and a second position, in which a distal end portion of the catheter is distal to the introducer. A first portion of the actuator is disposed outside of the introducer and in contact with an outer surface of the introducer such that (1) a longitudinal axis defined by a second portion of the actuator is nonparallel to a longitudinal axis defined by the introducer and (2) the second portion of the actuator exerts a force on a proximal end portion of the catheter operable to increase an internal stress within a portion of the catheter.
